It's an embarrassing comment and I agree it doesn't inspire much confidence but there is truth in its bluntness.
The previous decades worth of governments went all in on oil. Now we're shocked that the new government can't think of a way to fix that? What did you expect them to do?
The Minister should have kept her mouth shut but people acting surprised that a provincial government doesn't have a plan to somehow reverse the effects of a multi national oil cartels decision to bleed us dry is funny.

There is a truth in the bluntness, and the bluntness speaks to the first thing that comes to mind for that person.
And the message is, we have no plan to help.

Of course people moving to other job markets is the most valid way for individuals to deal with a slumping economy. It just doesn't look good when the person recommending this course of action represents a political party doing its best to hamstring the best source of employment in this economy.

I really wonder what the results of an election would be if one was today.
All I can do is laugh at this clown show of a party we have running our province. It's so ridiculous.

We lost lots of money in Alberta because of oil companies flying workers in and out from BC and the Maritimes. Great to make money here yet they spend 0. High time they head home.
And as far as not having a plan? What was Prentice plan with his budget?

Higher taxes for all (health care levy, progressive income tax), no raises for public workers.
On the other side, no corp tax increase, no royalty review. Probably no carbon tax.

And that pretty much makes the big difference for the province. We would of been much better off with prentice.

Its pretty simple. They're going to go ahead and keep doing whatever they want to do and ignore all of the consequences of their actions.
Its like making the school's nerdy kid the Hall Monitor and he gets all drunk with power but its his time to shine and hes going to do what he wants.

Well, the corporate tax increase, royalty review, and the carbon tax have been immense additions to the burden the province is already carrying.
Oil & Gas, and the Wild Rose, should ensure that the at the very least, the NDP pushes forward on pipeline capacity in this province.

Stupid, tone deaf thing to say but is she wrong? People flocked to Alberta from all over Canada to work. Are Albertans immune?
Times are tough. You gotta do what you gotta do.
I work outside of Canada. I'm away from my wife, other family and my friends for extended periods (40+ weeks a year). I'm doing it because it's the best thing for my family in the long run.
So yeah, stupid and tone deaf. But not wrong.

I disagree. We would have been in trouble, certainly, but its a matter of degrees.
Man, think about it, what do you do if you lose your job? You cut your costs. You dont spend more and use your credit card to pay your mortgage and just hope that eventually something happens and it magically gets better and you dont have to face the reckoning.

So you want the government to budget like a family? Brilliant.

New government doesn't know how to fix the huge industry that the last government couldn't fix? Tells people to that industry to hunker down or look elsewhere? I don't know, that seems fair.
Tough to hear someone telling you a truth you don't want to hear when you don't like the messenger. At least most of you have a flare for the dramatic to keep things entertaining.

Let me put this as bluntly as possible
"So what's your plan to help the unemployed people of the province especially those that are getting killed that worked in our primary sector"
"I don't know, maybe they should leave"
"So your clueless and at this point useless to your portfolio"
"Muggles"
"You should resign"
Its not the role of this government to basically stand there and say we have no plan, but we're going to go ahead and continue to kick the sh%t out of our primary industry, and if people can't find work they should gtfo.
Even if this person had said, we're looking at options to help people that are struggling, or even if they had the outlines or ideas then you build confidence that things are going to get better.
But instead he shugged his shoulders, basically said that as Energy Minister he either doesn't care about fixing it, or is clueless in his position and is adding no value.

I bet the NDP would win it actually. They seem to have a lot of support in the cities, and there's still no alternative. PC's are fragmented, and the WRP comes across as a bunch of hillbillies to the majority of the urban voters.
I talk to guys in Manitoba all the time, and they don't understand why the NDP keeps getting voted in there when it costs the province nothing but money. I would guess it would be the same thing here if we called an election tomorrow; they would win and a lot of people would be standing around going WTF just happened????

It would be like the CEO of a company standing before his employees and telling them their company is done. You should just quit your job and work for our competitor.
