I've heard a few names tossed around in different circles.
My guess would be Jim Dinning. He had an editorial article in last summer's Herald titled "The Next Alberta!" Sounded a lot like a leadership platform...
I'll try and find a link...
Any other speculation?

Yeah, there's some Poli-Sci professor from the U of C who resigned so that he could enter provincial politics. I think he has designs on being the next premier, forget what his name is though... I think he's one of the group that advises Stephen Harper.

There was a great article in a recent issue of Walrus about this so-called " Calgary School ". Has anyone else read it? They are actually a little scary in my opinion, as they definitely don't do much to diswade the right-wing nutbar views that people have of this province.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's one of that group. I used to have an office a couple doors down... can't for the life of me remember what his name is now. I'm pretty sure he recently won a provincial Conservative seat in a by-election...

Get the chocolate milk ready if he's our next premier!
Of course he would fall in line with the PC educational requirement. All he has is his high school diploma.

Im sure God taught him everything he needs to know.
seriously though, I think Stockwell Day is a decent guy, and there is no doubt he had the best interests of the country in mind according to his beliefs. However I think those beliefs are out of touch of many Albertans these days, and I have a feeling that religion might sneak into political matters somewhat similarly like we are seeing during Bush's term. And I definitely dont think that is very appropriate.
Im not really sure who I'd like to see as Premier though.....Kiprussoff perhaps?

It'll be interesting to see if Klein will try to groom a successor over this last term, or whether he'll let everyone just fight it out. When it actually comes to the election, it's pretty certain that whomever the Conservative candidate is will be elected, so the real battle will be who gets the next conservative nomination.

My money is on Dr. Morton being the next Premier, assuming the PC party doesn't go the way of Socred, UFA and Liberal in this province, and the Alliance or Separatists or *gasp* NDP don't take power.

Try talking to any Alberta teachers who know about his days in the school system. Then talk about him being a decent guy.

I know there's a political point to be made and I know these things are all over the place, but do you really need video of a man and his son getting killed as your sig?
Maybe I'm just not as desensitized as some, but thats freakin horrible to use as a sig.

Well I'm afraid I don't really have anything as solid as you would probably like right now. I just remember back when he was running for Prime Minister, talking to my dad about him and getting an extremely negative reaction. I don't remember exactly what was said, so I'm not going to guess and risk saying something completely false, but I believe the gist of it was that he was racist and anti-Semitist and misused his powers as an administrator. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but my dad was very sure and very opinionated about it, which doesn't happen too often. As for how he would know, he's an elementary school principal in Alberta and has been in the school system for some time. Only having time for about 5 minutes of research right now, here's a link that should at least prove I'm not completely out to lunch.

edit: there's also this one, the most relevant bit of which I have quoted below
http://www.warrenkinsella.com/words_speeches_alc.htm
In the course of doing some Internet research one fine day, I came across a few letters written by Stockwell Day Senior to Douglas Christie, the delightful man who - according to the Law Society of Upper Canada - has "made common cause" with Hitler fans like James Keegstra, Ernst Zundel and so on.
In his little missives to Mr. Christie, Stock Senior unburdened himself of a few opinions. Such as that gays were "sodomites." And that we should only admit immigrants who "look like us." And that Canadian immigration offices resembled "the Harlem Globetrotters" basketball team. And that Mr. Christie was his "captain." That sort of thing. Does the proverbial apple fall far from the proverbial tree, I asked myself? Let us find out!
Naturally, finding these letters on the internet seems a bit sketchy, so don't just take the article at face value

I'd be more than happy to take the position, here are some campaign slogans:
"I've never spent more than 2 week in Alberta"
"Let's get into debt, and run deficits like a REAL province"
"Who needs Oil, lets invest in pumpkins, I have a feeling their sales are gonna peak around January!"
"Will spend entire surplus bribing Gary Bettman for the Stanley Cup" (hey I have to have atleast one promise I'm gonna keep)

Yeah, sorry about that. I thought it was thought-provoking, it's not often we see that kind of stuff outside videogames, and I feel that those images bring a real-life perspective to some of the insulated political arguments we have. There are costs, I just thought I'd show them.
Sorry for offending.
