Float rumours you are in on Davis, resign thrash like Smoak. Typical Rogers.
Most US media outlets said this is exactly what the Jays were going to do. Does Rogers not realize there is this thing called the internet now?

So I think the writing is pretty much on the wall now. Jays are going to make one more half ass with Bautista and Edwin and significantly reduce payroll after that. A bunch of short term signings to get them through this year than the dismantling begins.

All this just because they signed a depth bench player?

Not because of one player, but because every player they have signed is short term. They haven't made a single play on any free agent that would require a long term commitment.

Has anyone heard if there's going to be an innings limit on Stroman next year? I suspect there will be given his age and injury history .

3.9M for Smoak is beyond the 2M projection by quite a bit. Not sure exactly what the Jays are thinking here. Even if they are planning a platoon at 1st, or moving on from EE and giving more bats to Smoak, it doesn't change his worth in terms of dollars out. Jays calculator broke and they are winging it with an abacus, I guess.
And no innings limit on Stroman. If he shows strain they will throttle him back, but unless that happens, he's the ace.

Huh? Do you even know what you are talking about? A lot of young pitchers are on innings limits. I suspect Stroman will be no different, especially considering he missed most of last year.

Have they publicly said that? That is my hope, but innings limits are becoming part of the game for young pitchers. I don't believe in innings limits myself. Some experts think the reason tommy John surgeries are on the rise are innings limits placed on young pitchers.

I guess it depends on whether the potential arbitrator would have used his last contract (as opposed to his pre-Jays pay tragectory). Regardless he had a .299 OBP (and equally putrid batting average). He barely hits well enough to be a catcher let alone a 1B. The Jays should be paying him zero dollars. What's wrong with dropping Smoak and using some of his AB to give other guys a DH day and play Edwin at 1st?
3.9M for gotdamn Smoak... what a waste.

Maybe coming off an arm injury, but I have never seen a pitcher coming off a knee injury have his innings limited....

The weirdest part is you have Collabello and EE who can take turns at first and DH.
At best Smoak is a late game defensive replacement. Really weird.

They have some young pitchers on innings limits without any injuries.

Worth keeping in mind though that Collabello is 32 years old and until last sesaon had never been anything but a bench player. Don't get me wrong I like him and I don't think he'll suddenly fall off the map but I also woudln't be comfortable going into the season with him as your only real 1B option. I think they had to have someone there because if you don't suddenly you've got the situation they had in LF last year where they've got no one adequate to play the position. EE to me is a DH and you don't want him playing the field everyday, he gets banged up enough as it is.
I also think its a bit harsh that everyone rips apart Blue Jays management for being "cheap" but then also rips into them for overpaying someone who will probably be a platoon/bench player for them. I get everyone wants to see big name FA and wanted them to re sign Price, but what big name free agent did the Royals sign last year that put them over the top? How about the Giants the year before that?

I don't get the Smoak deal at all. He's good defensively, but holy moly he's frustrating to watch at the plate. At least Thole isn't coming back, so there's that.

Best news I've heard in months. Gibby must be pretty stoked about that. He can have an extra actual bench player now.

Looks like Navarro signed with the White Sox. He's going to be a backup there likely with them also acquiring Avila. Not sure why Toronto wouldn't have resigned him for their backup if he was willing to take that role. Estrada's numbers are significantly better with Navarro catching him over Martin. That said, when Estrada went on his role Navarro was already catching him so Martin really never had a chance.
I wonder what kind of money Chicago paid Navarro?

From mlbtraderumors:

The Blue Jays and Royals are among the clubs monitoring the market for right-hander Joakim Soria, reports ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick (Twitter link). The Tigers are out of the mix for Soria after acquiring Francisco Rodriguez, he adds. Both Toronto and K.C. are known to be interested in relief help, though a recent report from Crasnick indicated that the Blue Jays aren’t inclined to pay top dollar for any bullpen arms right now, and Soria is reportedly seeking a $27MM total over a three-year span, which seems to make the two an unlikely match.
