There hasn't been many replies because nobody else seems to come close to Enmax's EasyMax.

- $100 bonus per year- I believe EPCOR has a one time $40 bonus. (Lame enough that on their commercial at the end the announcer even asks "why$40?")
- Best rates on power, and the same rates as anybody else on gas.
- Lock into a power rate and cancel with only a 1 month penalty.
- Lower admin fees than Direct Energy. (By a few dollars per month.)
- Profits that Enmax make go back into back into the City's budget, as they are owned by the city.

^^ Also one bill combined with your water, garbage and recycling. If you split out power and gas you still have to deal with Enmax anyway.

Does anyone understand why there are two rates on their site? Signed up before 06/01/2012 and signed up after that date? the rate is waaay cheaper if you signed up after... Wondering how you take advantage of that? cancel service and transfer into spouses name?

Are you talking EPCOR on ENMAX?

I think it applies for both, one is the fixed rate and the other is the floating month-to-month rate. The floating rate changes monthly, and is based on many different factors (supply vs demand being the main one of course).

You could cancel and put services into spouses name, but they may not be able to use your history to waive deposits (if required). Although that may differ depending on the retailer, and they can probably run a credit search or take a credit reference letter from another supplier.

You can always check out the utility consumers advocate website as well if you want more information on all the retailers out there:

http://www.ucahelps.alberta.ca/ or call 310-4822

If you live in Edmonton EPCOR is the ONLY company that bills for water/waste services. If someone from Direct Energy, Just Energy, or another company says otherwise they are lying. EPCOR is the only supplier for all services, but if you want gas through them you need to sign a contract.

They have a new EasyMax program you can opt into. (Old program doesn't go away if you have it already). Theres a good comparison on their site about the change.

No $100 free dollars, but different admin fees, rates, etc. Was too complicated for me to bother calculating overall savings if I were to switch, as only 0.01c/kWh cheaper (would keep floating gas for now anyways).

I was thinking more for electricity - I am on the old flat $.08 per kWh, but saw that the after 06/01/2012 the rate was around $.03 a kWh, so I went to floating for now, instead of the fixed $.08. I'll go back fixed once the rate increases, right now you can quit and resign at $.0779

I don't know how much information I am actually allowed to divulge, but I would maybe wait out a contract right now. Rates are going to drop this year; they already have this month. So if you're going to sign a fixed contract, maybe wait a couple months, and see if their fixed rate drops (along with the floating).

Default Enmax fixed vs. floating rates...

What are your guy's opinion on Enmax's "Choose Free Electricity Promotion?" Thats on till Jan 25
I use about approx 530 kWh per month, I'm waiting for my next gas bill to come in to see approx what I'm using per month

Additional info;

A. Conditions:

1. You must sign up for both Electricity (at 7.79 ¢/ kWh) and Gas ($5.99 /GJ or Floating + $0.99 /GJ) for 5 Years.

2. Administration Fees are $7.10 per month for Electricity and $7.10 per month for Gas.

3. The customer will receive electricity at 0 ¢ /kWh up to a maximum of $750 for one year: applied just to the energy portion of the bill. This applies to either the first or third year of a 5 year contract. (The $750 is not what the customer would receive, but rather this is a cap on what the offer is valued at. This is equivalent to a customer using about 802 kWh per month – to achieve the maximum benefit). Once the $750 credit limit has been reached the customer will continue paying the 7.79 ¢/kWh rate.

4. If the customer cancels the contract the penalty is $95 per Electricity Site and $95 per Gas Site calculated for the remaining term of the 5 year contract.

Question -- I received my enmax bill today and it does not contain any electricity charge; just natural gas, water, sewer etc. I checked my account online and it shows me as still being registered for both natural gas and electricity.

Anybody experience this before? Should I just assume I'll get charged for two months of electricity next month?

I've had that happen. I called them just to make sure I wasn't switched- and I wasn't. Next month I had to pay for two months of power. I had paid extra on the bill that didn't have a power charge, so it wasn't a shock.

Thanks -- I called this afternoon but didn't have time to wait on hold for who knows how long.

Hi all,

Looking for a bit of help understanding my options better.

Moving out from a condo where heat/water was included and I just had to pay with Enmax for electricity to a townhouse where I have to pay for it all.

What are the best options out there for me if anyone has some advice that would be greatly appreciated?

And since I'm a n00b at this, I assume that once I figure out who I want to go with I can just give them a call and let them know the date I'm taking over posession of the townhouse and that's it?

Thanks in advance!

Stay away from Direct Energy, and just do it all through Enmax easymax. One bill, and you don't have to deal with the morons at DE.

I'm on variable both for gas and electricity. Haven't really looked too closely if that's the best route.

Enmax floating electricity rate for June: 3.8 cents/kWh
Enmax floating electricity rate for July: 8.2 cents/kWh

Why the > 2x price difference? Due to all the hot weather?

^Electricity often skyrockets in the summer with people running AC. Same with gas in the winter, with furnaces being used

Good rule of thumb for my fellow Easymaxers

Electricity; fixed rate in the summer, floating in the winter (I switch to fixed when it looks like temperatures are supposed to be steady 17+)
Gas; fixed rate in the winter, floating rate in the summer

Other factors like the amount of damage to their infrastructure with storms effected the high electricity price in July

Is there any reason I shouldn't change from my old Enmax 8cents fixed rate to their current 6.99 cents offer?

I agree, but I actually float on Gas all months... There hasn't been a month in 5 years that I have paid more floating, except for maybe 1-2. Last winter the RRO (floating) was around $2/gj and the fixed rate was nearly $5... Really hard to ever make that difference up even with one or two peak month jumps upwards...

This is my question; somehow I am still on the $0.08 fixed when I swap back, not the new $0.0699... I think this has to do with some poorly-explained plan difference between those on a pre-2012 contracts and those on post-2012 contracts. I am on a pre 2012 contract and I think thusly subject to the higher rate?! But I don't pay some monthly fee... Or something.

I made the switch to this but they offered me 5.99. The only catch to this is I no longer receive easymax rewards.

I had just under $400 in easymax rewards - I didn't touch them since I got my house and it has been 4 years next month. I did the math and on average I would save about $10 a month or $120 a year. So over that same 4 year span I would be saving $480.

Made sense to me but I am always skeptical when they want you to change your plan. I guess we will see.

They also doubled the transaction fee for gas on the new plan from .47/GJ to .90/GJ; with easy max rewards gone and the 5.99 vs 8 cents , I went back through my bills and found I would be paying more for a the same consumption from last year about $10-30 dollars more per bill. It didn't work for me.
