Kylington has a low body fat % compared to most hockey players. I bet most of his added weight is solid muscle and will not slow him down.

Adding 10 lbs of muscle in 2 months would be a huge accomplishment for someone who's dedicated their whole life to weight lifting. Doing it over 2 months of a Hockey season is so completely bonkers that I have a tough time believing it.

e: He is 18 and his body should basically be at it's peak in terms of developing muscle mass. I added 7-10 lbs of muscle mass in 3 months once and I felt like I was blowing up like the Hulk.

I agree, are we sure that it isn't compared to last season rather than the start of this one?

I guess it might be possible just because the team has been playing so few games...

Stockton has only played 15 games, Calgary 25.

So he is definitely hitting the weight room. Plus he probably is still growing a bit vertically. Typically you don't stop entirely until you're 20.

He is by far the most improved player in the organization since the draft.

If the Flames do sell towards the deadline, I wouldn't be shocked if they decided to give him and a few other players a couple of games up here.

Stop teasing me like that with the idea of seeing Kylington up on the main squad this year. I can only get so excited.

How would you know this?

I would imagine that all pro hockey players would have low % body fat. How much does it vary?

For instance what would be the standard body fat % and what would targets be for the kids jumping from junior to pro?

from the combine results posted at pensionplanpuppetts

he was not in the top 10 at the combine:

1 Jack Sadek 4
2 Anthony Richard 4.6
3 Gabriel Carlsson 4.8
4 Brandon Carlo 4.9
5 Austin Wagner 5
6 Parker Wotherspoon 5
7 Brendan Guhle 5.1
8 Travis Konecny 5.9
9 Noah Hanifin 6.1
10 Felix Sandstrom 6.2

Would it be a wrong assumption that the average NHler ( with years of full professional fitness training) be significantly fitter than the 18 year olds at the combine?

Is there any where where they track TOI in the AHL. In the article

He’s also added nearly 10 lb. of muscle to his 6-foot frame and has even earned some extra icetime as a quarterback for the powerplay unit.
I would have guessed that he would have been given a lot of PP time from the get go.

Not a lot of really offensive style D-men on the Heat.

I think, usually, males stop growing at 18. They can keep growing up to 25 I believe. I know I hit 6' at 16 and stopped entirely. My cousin was 6'4 at 18. 6'6 at 21. 6'10 at 25. Don't quote me entirely on the ages, but I know he grew 6 inches after high school.

Not to sidetrack the thread at all or anything though.

Back on topic:
I hope Kylington can stack on 10 lbs of muscle in a few months and not lose his foot speed.

I'd say most NHL players would probably have a body fat content of around 7-10%, depending on the person.

Having a body fat as low as these kids above is going to be counter-productive more often than not.

Anderson in his draft year was pushing close to 210 in not a good way. Kylington, came in at a lean 160+ iirc.

No extra £ on Oliver, that takes 20 Kylings.

I went to the Heat v Reign game last week and Shillington was very clearly thinner than all players on the ice.

Definitely was able to keep up and be a difference maker at the AHL level, but very noticeably skinnier than everyone.

Hopefully he keeps getting stronger, he'll be a hell of a player.

Right now, he has a similar build as Anton Stralman.

if he's that skinny it means that he'd be fine for a week or two but the wear and tear at the NHL level would eventually catch up to him.

Great news though.

It is all about your playing style... there are plenty of small or skinny guys who can get by without issues. Playing a rugged style at his size would wear him down, otherwise I don't see it being a huge issue.
