You know when it comes to peppers, people say: " I don't care if they're black, white, purple or green"… Ooh hold on now: Purple or Green? You gotta draw the line somewhere! To hell with purple peppers! - Unless they're suffocating - then help'em.

I find if you cook with pepper, it matters less than if you sprinkle it fresh. No way pre-ground pepper say on a caesar salad comes anywhere near freshly ground.

I'm a big fan of these things. It has a little knob that lets you adjust the grind from coarse to a fine powder.

I guess it depends on whether I use my right or left hand to grab it off the spice rack. That is right. I HAVE BOTH KINDS OF PEPPER, SIDE BY SIDE.

Who actually uses a mortar and pestle to routinely grind pepper? Nobody.

I think it's a size thing with freshly ground. On something coming out you want depth and variance of flavours. Whereas seasoning while your cooking you want distribution.
So if you compared the same size of ground pepper fresh vs pre ground I suspect it would be difficult to tell the difference.

This thread is funny, I'm looking forward to tomorrow's debate on the Parmesan cheese.
To share a black pepper anecdote: Last year the GF and I were in Toledo, Spain enjoying an amazing view and some delicious Manchego cheese when a table of very rude tourists sat down beside us. They tried ordering from the Spanish waiter in broken English and then got upset he was having trouble understanding them. One of the things they asked for was Black Pepper and they kept getting louder and louder yelling Black Pepper! Black Pepper! Black Pepper!
This has now become an inside joke and anytime black pepper is mentioned we start randomly yelling it out. By the way in Spanish black pepper is pimienta negra.

Why wait until tomorrow? There is only one way: buy a giant wedge, grate it fresh as needed, and always overestimate the amount you'll need so there's a nice chunk leftover as a treat for yourself. But it is getting expensive now that my 4-year-old enjoys the ritual as much as I do.
That fake Kraft stuff in the green container is simply not acceptable.

Sliver, ignore the haters, deniers and moralists. They are not worthy of your talents.
Disagree with you on the OP though. Fresh ground pepper smells and feels better. Smell is half of the taste.
