Default Stamp out touchdown celebrations

http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...baebb1&k=28696

A big debate this week.

I would prefer that the Stamps save the celebrating for after the Grey Cup. I know this is old school, but my dad played for Ottawa U and Queens and was drafted by the Ottawa Roughriders; if his coaches ever saw a player act like that, they would have personally took that player to the woodshed. These coaches did not even approve of helping opponents up or shaking hands with them after the game.

I know times change, and football is an entertainment industry. What bothers me is the arrogance of the players; they say they are going to do this no matter what anyone (coaches, media, fans) says. Who do these players think they work for? The fans pay the bills. The coach is the boss and has said publicly he does not approve of this behavior.

I think it is unsportsmanlike. It fires up the opposition.

I don't break out in a dance or do some crazy celebration every time I do something good at work.

if and when we get into the endzone
act like you've been there a thousand times before

Nah, man...
Nothing wrong with having fun on the job!

However, if it is such a issue, then lets keep it to our building because i for one find it entertaining and I do look forward to it!

They have not done anything insulting to anyone... if anything, the opposition should get fired up and come up with their own dances to celebrate! As long as it is still done in good taste/humour, there should not be a problem with it!

Now Get Back To Work you Slackers!!!

I think it's so stupid to do it if your down by like 30 but besides that, go ahead. It's entertainment plain and simple, it hurts nobody and a ton of people actually enjoy it. If somehow the difference between winning or losing the Grey Cup is because another team got fired up due to touchdown dance's, then the Stamps deserve not to win it.

I don't see why people care so much about this

I don't mind a celebration, but I don't like all the choreography that is happening.

Give me the Barry Sanders celebration. Cross goal line. Look for referee. Hand ball to aforementioned referee. Jog to bench.

That's a running back for you. Joffrey Reynolds scores a TD and that's pretty much what you get. But those receivers are a different breed alltogether. Direct quote from Nik Lewis, "We're entertainers, not athletes." Okay Nik, whatever you say. Personally I love it, I think it's hilarious. To each his own.

I like it. I don't see what the big deal is.

I think the whole "it fires up the opposition" is way too overblown, if you aren't already pumped and someone has to do a little dance to fire you up or make some quote about you, you don't deserve to be playing professional sports.

Ok, what about this then? What if your opponent is so frustrated, they go out and take someone's head off on the next play? Someone is going to get maimed.

I wonder if approval/disapproval splits pretty much on age? How many older than 35 like this?

And what if someone looks cross-eyed at someone else, and they go home and beat up their wife?

Yikes man, that is a stretch if I've ever seen one.

How is that a stretch? Big defensive player is embarrassed by yappy little receiver. Next chance he gets he knocks his block off. I'm sure there a lot of players that want to take a shot at the Stamp receivers.

Do you have any evidence to support this?

I don't see a lot of unnessesary roughness calls from DBs on our receivers after their respective celebrations.

BTW it isn't just the Stamps who've been dancing, although they've been the one getting the rep.

I'm exactly 35 and I enjoy seeing them. Not sure if that helps you or not.

To me it helps build the sense of teammanship (if that's a word.) The current celebrations involve more than one player; sometimes fans; sometimes cheerleaders.

How about this. What do you think about the Lambeau Leap?

I'm 38.

I don't mind enthusiasm, but some of these are over the top.

I didn't agree with Jerry McGuire either, when Cuba Gooding's character was told he needed to be more lively. Unfortunately, it is probably true (look how many people STILL remember "He Hate Me" when Rod Smart is is on a team). It won't help their game, but it does help them be remembered.

How many goals did Tiger Williams score? But I still remember him riding his stick.

26 and loving life!

Same can be said of Allen Pitts. The guy was awesome... but unfortunately even though I just saw it a couple of days ago, I can't remember how many touchdowns he got, total yards... uh oh, I'm too young for Amnesia!!!

But I do remember how tough he was to cover and that the guy would go to bat for his team.

We should be talking about the best routine they have done to date.

The most recent was good for making use of the track...

But I saw a replay (finally!) of the bike... ingenuity!
The martinis... another classic - is it too soon to be calling these things classics???

and the bobsled stand out as some of the best!

I agree with the teamman....thing!
It's better than mr. lonestar T.O. doing everything alone and no one wantin to jump in with him.

What I don't like is how they don't seem to ripped about the way they played (didn't) for the first 35 minutes of the game against the Esks. I enjoy the dances, but that they need to address is by telling fans, yea, we like to dance, but we need to fix our lack of motivation for the better part of the game and then letting it slip in the last 6 seconds!

That is where my cause of concern is about the team. If Higgins would bring it across like that, then everybody would definitely agree with him!

Remember when T.O. did his stunt on the star at Texas Stadium? A Dallas player went after him and smoked him at full speed.

If you show someone up in a physical game like football, there will be retribution. It might be legal, it might be a penalty, but you will be a target.

T.O. deserves all of that, cause he typically does it to tick people off. Anything the Stamps receivers have done has not been directed at the other team in any way.

If they start to direct it at the other team, then something needs to be done about it. But so far, so good!

If they want to stop it its easy...simply dont telecast it. The Networks are to blame for making it an event.
If a streaker runs across the field they pan away and talk about Jesus...no reason they cant do it with this if they choose.
Im blase about it...the track thing last weekend in the chuk was pretty bush if you ask me...it actually made me laff...in embarassment. Do a little hip wiggle...hold the ball high and giver a good spike if ya have to...but choreographed routines? nah.

I'm not in this 35 year old range, much younger. But I love it, I think it adds to the ENTERTAINMENT of the game...and let's face it, it is a professional sport but it is supposed to be entertaining for fans as well.

And you know what, if you are a defensive player that get's mocked by the dances, then you should try 5 times harder to not let them beat you on the next play. If you feel you need to respond to that kinda of "taunting" with violence, then you have the mind set of a 2 year old and don't belong in sports.

Banning the celelbrations, IMO, take away the signinficance of them. Imagine going to the dome for a Flames game and not seeing the Flame go on when we score a goal. Or any of the celebrations....that should be seen as the same thing really.
