Every center in the draft had potential to turn into a #1C if Jankowski is the base line for this sort of comment.
Should we burn a 1st round draft pick on every center available now?

Jankowski was drafted with a high confidence that he had what it took to be a #1C.
Just go back to page 1 of this this very thread. Post 12, Post 17, Post 33.

I would love to see Janko be a key part of a Flames Cup win and in the post game interview he talks about all the criticism he received from fans and how it motivated him to be a better player and prove all of us wrong.
I still think he's going to be an important piece for this team for a long time.

So because posters say they think he will be a top line center that is all it takes?
He hadn't shown any indication that he had the skill to be a future #1 center in this league (at least no more than any other center in the draft) but because people had to latch on to something his supposed upside became the narrative around him.

You're not still denying you're moon, right? The posts in this thread are vintage moon garbage.
Thankfully though you seem to lack even basic self awareness and don't realise how easy your style, the way you post and bull headed stubborn posts are to recognise.

Post 12 - a copypaste from a published draft profile (THW)
Post 17 - a quote from the General Manager of the NHL organization drafting him
Post 33 - a poster, maybe, but one who had seen the player play before the draft and had identified that player as the best player available before the draft. Also a guy with a pretty decent track record with projections.
As for "all it takes" i'm not sure what you're implying. I don't think an NHL team's amateur scout's were looking at what posters on CP said after the draft pick, before they decided to draft him. But I'll post some pre-draft scouting reports for you which expand on "he was drafted in the first round with the idea that he could legitimately be a #1C":

Not a lot of guys that were available for us at the 2012 draft have made any kind of significant contributions. You've got, Hertl, Määttä, Teräväinen and Girgensons, and Girgensons seems to suck now that he's stuck behind Eichel and O'Reilly.
Then there's guys like Ceci, Wilson and Laughton, who look very dime-in-a-dozen.
It really doesn't seem like we've missed out on that much. I'd love to have Määttä, but other than that I'm perfectly fine still betting on Jankowski.

No, it was the head scout, assistant GM, and the consensus of the scouting staff who felt he was the best player available for the Flames' position in the draft and believe he has that upside.
Most of the posters on CP had never heard his name before Feaster said it when announcing the pick. I'd guess that none had ever seen him play a game.
The people who were saying he had the potential to be a top-line centre were the people who had actually seen him play.

Yeah that 2012 draft was pretty weak, I haven't lamented the Jankowski pick at all, ever. Maatta would've been nice in a way but he can't stay healthy. No point in pining over what may/should have been.
Feaster and Weisbrod made the whole thing a million times worse with their fan boy-esque raving about him. If they had maintained a modicum of professionalism, I don't think the backlash would've been nearly as bad. Almost felt bad for the kid with all that going on. Luckily by the time he is in the mix, he will more or less just be another prospect.

Plus if there's just 1-3 guys that you'd rather have that were availably to you, and most of them in different positions (we could theoretically have picked Malcolm Subban for example), you did okay.

Everything has been going fine with Janko. Lots of people just love to freak out, whine, complain and be impatient about it

Weisbrod mentions three or four years here and it was he who made the final decision, not the scouts or the GM. Some people thought he was a possible pick because Craig Button had ranked him around where the Flames were picking.

Well considering he mentioned Baertschi as "one year away" I think you have to question what his and your definition of away is. Baertschi played one more year of junior then turned pro. Jankowski played that 3-4 year range in College and now will turn pro.
Or maybe it doesn't matter all that much, maybe we\re splitting hairs and maybe we shouldn't take what one guy said in a post draft video as Gods written law and admit that timelines can change, things can be said and we shouldn't be so pedantic about things.
Maybe.

I'd rather take a chance mid to late 1st round on a guy who might be an impact player or might bust rather than a 'safe' pick like Chucko or Nemisz.

Who cares?
Most of the people complaining would have found a reason to bitch for a few years until he started to show real upside. If he busted they would have bitched more, if he panned out they would have moved on to the next complaint.
