As soon as they suggested a All-Canadian division for re-alignment, I stopped reading. That is literally the worst idea I've ever heard. Yes, literally.

It looks kind of cool at first glance. But then look at how the neck of the knight gets super skinny where the mouth/helmet cuts in. Yikes.

The Quebec Federation of Labour's Solidarity Fund has expressed interest in a partnership to help finance the return of the Nordiques hockey team to Quebec City. Pierre Karl Peladeau, Parti Quebecois leader and controlling shareholder of Quebecor Inc., has suggested that the investment fund tied to the province's largest labour federation could be a potential investor.

...

Peladeau has said that it's not necessary to spend taxpayers money to bring the NHL club back, but that others like the Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec, the province's pension fund manager, could also invest in a future team.

I'm just relieved that according to The Score all the Flames lose is Granlund and Byron. I can live with that.

That's the bottom edge of his visor, not a super skinny neck.

The tremedous mis use of the word literally has actually now been changed in the dictionary. So.. I think your ok either way now???

The definition of literally is no longer the literal definition of literally.Alas, poor literally . . .
Gizmodo has discovered Google's definition for literally includes this: "Used to acknowledge that something is not literally true but is used for emphasis or to express strong feeling."

But it doesn't end with Google.

Merriam-Wesbter and Cambridge dictionaries have also added the informal, non-literal definition.

Why use American sources for English? The Oxford dictionary recognizes it is used in an informal sense for emphasis.

This use can lead to unintentional humorous effects ( we were literally killing ourselves laughing) and is not acceptable in formal contexts, though it is widespread.

One of the biggest laughs I've had was watching Nancy Grace trying to correct a British lawyers use of English.

It was used just because it was an article I had just read before coming to CP. Oxford dictionary has apparently changed the meaning of literally in 2011 but it had just gone unnoticed untill those 2 American sources added them in the last week or so.

So Since 2011 people have not been using litarally wrong at all if Oxford definitions are standard.

Dreger on Insider Trading saying some GMs speculating they will be able to protect 9 forwards 5 defencemen, 1 goalie and all players on an ELC if an expansion draft where to occur.

Another GM told Dreger that with such a high expansion fee there could even fewer restrictions such as 6 forwards, 4 defencmen and 1 goalie.

He was also clear to state that the NHL insists hasn't looked at expansion draft thoroughly yet.

LeBrun says the NHL believes that the expansion draft would override a NMC, but the NHLPA might challenge that.

The latest thing coming out of Seattle is to renovate the Key Arena.

Quote:
n addition to the Hansen Sodo proposal, there is also a proposal to renovate Key Arena, the former home of the NBA's Supersonics who now play in Oklahoma City. That renovation is projected to cost $285 million according to the Times, citing an architectural report. There is a vote expected in January by the Seattle City Council on the Hansen arena project and there is speculation the NHL is waiting to see how that vote turns out before it moves forward with any plans for expansion.

The problem is that this would be the reported hockey layout.

Quote:
That’s not easily fixed, unless you either saw the arena in half and stretch it out, or use TARDIS technology to make it bigger on the inside.

writer gets extra points for the Tardis Technology

I'd actually like to see this happen. Key Arena is obviously outdated but the building and the whole Seattle Centre is a really cool mesh of buildings. If they can renovate and update it with the latest technologies, I think it could work.

From the general lack of public support for an NHL team, it might even be better to take out more seats and replace it with luxury boxes, which I think would probably sell better than seats given all the corporations and businesses in Seattle. I think that market would be hard pressed to sellout 15,000 seats regularly anyways, so if you replaced say 2,000 seats with luxury boxes, you might have a more intimate hockey venue.

Ticket sales are really over-rated anyways. The real money is in TV, and the reason why the NHL wants Seattle so bad (even though they say they don't) is because it is such a huge TV market on the west coast.

The NHL is still largely a gate-driven league. National TV rights in the U.S. still sell for a pittance, and regional rights are really valuable only in traditional hockey markets.

They certainly won't get a good turnout in a building that only seats 15,000 including sections with obstructed views. The market is there, but they need a real NHL-grade arena to make it work.
