No surprise he cleared as he's just not an NHL talent at the moment. That said good for the Flames given they have invested in him and he may still be able to be a serviceable backup goaltender with some more seasoning.

Figured he would clear, but it was sure fun watching people get worked up. 
Don't worry, he will get another chance. With both Ramo and Ortio on no one's list, Hiller is probably the next one to be shopped or waived.
I like Ortio and think he still has potential, but some people really tend to overrate our own. Goaltending on this team has been weak all season and there are better options out there for teams looking at stop-gap solutions. The only way another team probably wants Ortio is if they can send him down for more experience, so perhaps passing through waivers actually increased his value.

Not necessarily true. Players that have cleared waivers have been traded shortly after.

Agreed, maybe next year. He's a decent goalie prospect but still lots of work to do.
Actually wish the waiver rules on goalies was a little looser. They take so long to develop it'd be nice to have more options for a longer period of time with them.

No luck involved at it was pretty inevitable. It's actually mostly good with a little bad. Good in that the Flames get to keep him and bad because he's kind of been hyped up by the team and fan base as a future NHL netminder and the rest of the league just turned up their noses up to that assessment.
