Any tips where to find a decent rifle? I only have one atm and it only does 13damage I think? I'd like to be able to do some sniping from afar and then cruise in with a minigun to finish off baddies. I've only run into a couple vendors and they didn't seem to have anything great either.
I have the "Overseer's Guardian" rifle or something from vault 81. Right now with upgrades it has a solid long range scope and does 82 damage. Had to complete a couple quests in the vault but they were really easy.

Head to I think its called "Good Neighborhood" and go to the gun shop a lot better than diamond city and its open 24/7 versus the one in diamond city.
I've been pretty happy just modding the weapons I find here and there. Turning a pipe rifle into a sniper rifle kind of sucked (low damage), but I was able to mod together a pretty decent double barrel shotgun fairly early on. Just gotta find 'dem screws!
I also have my original 10mm pistol modded into a wicked silenced, high damage, medium range killing machine. Great against anything that has 2 legs and doesn't see me coming.

Get the perk that allows you to get parts from scrapped weapons! Really worthwhile.

Started the minutemen quest to clear out the Castle. Realized I'm nowhere near the level to kill the Mierkluk (sp?) Queen, so booked out mid-mission. Turns out Gavey followed me when I fast travelled. So now I have him and Dogmeat, but it's not counting Gavey as a companion because I'm still getting my Lone Wanderer perk.
Not sure if it's going to break the game but right now I'm out clearing a bunch of other missions and he's making it a ton easier. If I talk to him it he just says we need to focus on clearing the Castle. Not sure if I should keep going or go back to before the Castle mission.
I've having a lot of fun in this game. I really like the settlement addition but I really wish the developers took some time to give you a proper tutorial. I also see they have made flying insects amongst the most annoying and deadly creatures again. Also while it's great that ammunition is plentiful for pipe weapons it still doesn't change the fact that they are useless weapons.

The perk that has you find extra ammo is probably the most crucial imo
All of the perks that allow you to find extra are. I've ranked my ammo finder perk up to 3, my cap finder perk up to 2, and my scrapper perk up to 2.
I'm knee deep in ammo, caps and screws!

I really struggle with the perks. Every time I level up I spend like a half hour looking at perks and thinking "ya, I'd find that useful". Very few I think I can rule out as not wanting at all. So many different ways to experience this game. You can't have them all I don't think, I really have to stop stressing out over perk selection.
Heads up to the PC users. There are console codes that we can input to add/remove skills, stats, etc.
I mad a big mistake in my build (thought I had to pick every base skill to open up the later ones that I wanted). It turned into an easy subtract ~5 skills and put them into the ones I meant to.
anyone see the vid of the guy that got his head tak3n off by a deathclaw and instead of dying has to play the rest of the game with no perception and no head lol its a funny video
