Don't see them running with 3 goalies though.
They are high on Nilsson and Talbot is still their big acquisition for this year.
I see New Jersey (Kincaid), Toronto (if Reimer is hurt long term), & Pittsburgh (Zatkoff) as the teams that pose the biggest risk of claiming Ortio.

I'm pretty confident he will get claimed.
I'd hate to see him wind up in Edmonton but I can't see them sending either Nilsson or Talbot down.
Panthers maybe? Montoya is hurt.
Stars could depending on Lehtonen's injury.
Smith is dinged up in Arizona.
Colorado?
Those are the only ones that are at all obvious. Everyone else would have to kick a backup vet or young guy who has to clear waivers.

Winnipeg as lots of young guys with goalie potential. Doubt they claim him. I'm worried about Toronto though I heard the injury wasn't serious

Regardless of whether he's claimed or not, it's a pretty widely held opinion (and not just on this board) that Treliving has not handled the goaltending situation on this team very well. Doesn't mean he's the worst GM in club history. But he's a big boy, and I'm sure he can handle the criticism.

something else haha

What a mistake. He's a controllable asset and we have 2 veteran pending UFA goalies who aren't getting it done.

I think he clears. I agree with those that think he has been managed poorly. This season has gone so badly but it seemed to start with the terrible 3 goalie circus. At this point I doubt any of the 3 goalies that started the year with Calgary will be back next year.

Finally something happened (although I think Hiller should have been waived, but oh well). The way the Flames have handled their goaltenders this year has been an embarrassment (as has their play though...so...I guess it balances out?)

Dammit, he's a goner.
Dallas needs a goalie due to injury and so does Phoenix. I bet he's a Coyote tomorrow.

Even if he clears, I'm not happy about the whole goalie situation this year.
Why did Ramo get such a long leash when he was just as bad (if not worse)? Why is Hiller being handed the NHL job, when he was just as bad? Neither of those guys will be back next year (I hope), why not give the 24 year old pending RFA some chances instead?

Goalies either come in, play well, or they don't.
This isn't the end for Ortio in Calgary (probably) it just means he's being sent down, like Ramo was a month ago. If he clears he'll go to Stockton, play a bunch and hopefully continue to develop at the age of 24, young for a netminder. Could be back at some point this season, who knows.
|
Also I'd rather have Joni develop his game down in the AHL instead of sitting on the bench in Calgary. With Jon out long term it'll give him the chance to really run with a bunch of starts and get sharp again.

Really hope he clears, would be best for him and would help out Stockton a bit too with Gillies being hurt. At least the three goalie circus has come to end, what a disaster.

Team with the worst goalies in the NHL waiving the goalie they apparently consider the worst of the 3.
Why would anyone want that!

This. He has zero right to be upset. All he had to do was play well

The decision column on Ortio's stats on the NHL website kind of summarizes the joke that the Flames goaltending has been this season.

Doubt Edmonton claims him. Not if he has to stay on the roster all season.

To be fair, until Ramo recently none of the 3 have played well at all.

If I was him I'd be salivating to get out of this organization. Terrible goalie asset management and no playing time. Then he gets benched when he does play behind a horrible team with no defensive support.
I hope Ortio clears, but I don't blame him if he's hoping to get claimed.
