The point is that the article references many laws but gives zero insight into the actual circumstances or scenario at question.
There are many "laws" that can carry a maximum sentance of 2 years in jail and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. Very rarely are the maximums required or enforced.
I think that it is a click bate headline and nothing more at this point. Once there are more than zero details surrounding the incident(s) then feel free to bash away.
Just because you are afraid of, or don't understand why some people might have guns does not give you the right to abuse those that might want some due dillegence before casting him off as a "criminal". Are people who also get speeding or parking tickets also criminals?

I think the difference is that Farmers aren't dumbasses with their firearms. I would reckon most use them to protect their herds/flocks from wolves & coyotes (as well as general purpose hunting), and probably have one or two in the farmhouse for protection. They don't drive around with them for no apparent reason.
Although the details of this story are sparse, White was transporting firearms in an illegal manner, and possibly had illegal and/or restricted firearms with him. That is just plain stupid.
