I don't get the impression people here believe they have little value.
You just happened to throw out some very one sided trade proposals with them in it that were rightfully shot down. It's not that they don't have value, they just aren't going to land us any home runs like the ones you were proposing.

No but he's also likely reached his potential. He'll have some hot streaks but for the most part his production will likely be what it is now. He's in the 200s for goals and points 1/4 into the season. He's an average 3rd liner and nothing more.
Which means most teams have guys like him and you are unlikely to get much back for him.

With the isles proposal?
Regardless, clearly I have no idea what their value is. Since you do, go ahead and educate me.
Jiri also for that matter?
I'm not looking to stir the pot here. I'm legit wondering what people think their value is.

I don't disagree with you on Del Colle, but Hamonic was invited to the 2014 Olympic Team camp.
http://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/Tea...on-Camp/Roster
It would be hard to say nobody has ever heard of him. He was at the camp and Giordano was not. You change Del Colle for Strome or Brock Nelson and I would do that in a heartbeat. That Gio contract is going to be a nightmare in 3-4 years, if there is a way for Treliving to walk away from that contract it would be fantastic.

Hudler has to know he likely won't be brought along when the team is going for broke in a few years. A contender who needs some offensive punch will likely pay a premium at the deadline.
Thoughts?

Interesting that Marshall Johnston (Hurricanes Director of Pro Scouting) was in town Friday night watching the Hawks/Flames game. Hurricanes had interest in Backlund while Rutherford was GM and although he's no longer there, Johnston was in the same role back then. So perhaps the organization still has interest in Backlund. And you don't send the director of pro scouting to advance scout, chances are he's there to see someone, maybe Backlund.

I don't think they'd have interest in Backlund. They have a ton of forwards - so much so they have Strome in the minors.
I suspect Backlund has value of at most a 2nd rounder - or as a small part of a bigger deal.
I don't think he's someone you can use to land a big fish like Hamonic.

^ agreed. I don't believe I came up with anything where Backlund was the principal part going the other way.
I do feel Backlund could be part of a package to land us a top 6 forward. Likely not from the isles though.
It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Damn a lot of people are overvaluing this guy. Sure he plays a lot of minutes but he's a second pairing defensemen at most on majority of teams.

To be more clear...I was meaning, if Dal Colle is a stud RW, potentially...I've never watched him thoroughly ...nor am I familiar enough with Hamonic to say it's a good deal or a bad deal... I am in favor of the logic of a deal like that, in theory...where we get a younger, good D and a partially developed stud RW (in this case, Dal Colle played C/LW in junior, if I recall correctly)

Can you name an equal or better defenceman that hit the trade market in the past couple of seasons?

I like Hamonic, but I think he falls in the same class as any of the following. Zbynek Michalek, Jeff Petry, Braydon Coburn, Keith Yandle, Tim Gleason, Andrej Sekera, Cody Franson, Zach Bogosian, Tyler Myers, Johnny Boychuk, Nick Leddy, Michael Del Zotto, John-Michael Liles. The returns for most of these guys was underwhelming compared to what fans thought they would get in trade. I don't see Hamonic generating a massive return either.

Franson, Sekera, Gleason, Petry, Michalek et. al definitely are not. Especially with the context of Hamonic's very nice contract.

Typical Tinordi post. Toss out an ignorant comment that is easily refutable, then when proven to be totally wrong, dismisses the response with nothing to back it up.
Harmonic is a top four defender that is best served playing in that #4 slot, supporting a more offense oriented partner. Thats the role he plays in New York and the same one he'll play elsewhere. Physical guys with little offensive ability rarely return a lot in trade. A bakers dozen examples, all top four defense men, shows you where the value is. Guys of Hamonic's stature don't return a lot. Show me a trade in the past could years where a guy like Hamonic was the principle and returned a bounty of assets like those being discussed.

Hamonic is not the #4 on the Islanders. He is their #1 defenceman at even strength, and #2 on the PK.
And he can provide offense. He hasn't been much this year, but he had 33 points last year.

The reason he is available is because he asked for a trade. How often does a player asked to be moved, the team trading him wants win now pieces, and the team trading the player that wants out wins the trade?
Islanders are poised to lose this deal

3 or 4 injuries and maybe Team Canada in 2018? He is probably a bubble player to make that team right now.
