I really don't buy that theory, because it frankly really makes Palpatine look like a schmuck.
I get that Plagueiss supposedly had the power to cheat death. But that's what made Palpatine to me seem so fricken powerful. Through guile and patience he killed a Sith Lord that might have been unkillable.
If Snoke is Plagueis I might have to walk out of the theatre in disgust.
Fans want so much for things like Mace Windu surviving his 60 story fall, and at the end of the day the one thing that I hated more then a super weapon in every EU book was that there were tons of Jedi who had survived order 66.
At the end of the day it was a continual kick in the nuts to Palpatine who was retconned into a scmuck.
to me at the end of Order 66 there should have been like 10 Jedi in the Galaxy that survived. Mace Windu was packed into a jam jar and frozen in carbonite. Palpatine waited until his master fell asleep and killed him in a final way.

It's also unlikely because it connects directly to the prequels, which Abrams and co. have been wisely ignoring to the best of their ability. The reason the new movie is hyped so hard is because it's connecting directly to the original trilogy, anything referencing the terrible prequel trilogy would be bad for business. I doubt you see any reference or mention of a character that wasn't in the original trilogy in some way
I found this 1981 draft for "Revenge of the Jedi". This is before Kurtz had his falling out with Lucas after he changed his mind and went for a happy, children-friendly film (ostensibly for toy sales according to Kurtz).
It's interesting...but still has Ewoks instead of Wookies. It's also wildly different in many ways. IE: Obi Wan returns to the material world and the ending is a weird pre-cursor to the Revenge of the Sith battle.
According to Abrams, the movie was officially finished yesterday.
