Yeah it worked for me. I built some stuff before I knew how to scrap.

There is, it's called Rust. No idea if it's any good though.

I totally agree though. A nice big open world like Fallout4 but TWD themed would be awesome. Building a protected settlement is the main objective of the game and required visiting small towns all over map to collect supplies/building material. Have to deal with massive herds from time to time, maybe the occasional group of human invaders. I think DayZ was trying to do something like that but the game was just so unplayable IMO.

Heh yah. A daytime video would have worked better.

Am I the only one that doesn't care about the settlement building stuff? I keep Sanctuary stocked and happy and have some defenses there, but other than that I can't be bothered. Every other settlement and farm I get to join ends up fending for themselves

I think its dumb. It feels forced and I can't help but feel some other things were culled in favour of it. It seems to me that someone, close to the end of development went "Hey, what if..."

I think the fact I need three hands to do it on PC is dumb.

I think that once the modding community gets a hold of it, it will be immensely better or, at the very least, more streamlined.

I hate that Bethesda relies on its community to fix all its laziness.

I don't do it much either. I worked on building something cool around Red Rocket Gas Station, ran out of materials, and haven't been back in like 6 hours of game time.

I don't quite understand some of the posts that are like "I've played 8 hours and 7 of them are settlement building!". You kind of need to play the actual game -- doing quests, exploring, and going into places -- to find all the materials to build things.

Sure but on the opposite end of the spectrum you get the guys the finish the game in the first week it comes out. That's equally as puzzling to me.

Yes, there are some rarer items that you need to head out to find but for the most part, a vast majority of what you need is already in your settlement.

I enjoy the settlement part, I think it adds an extra interesting element to the game.

Building is kind of confusing and annoying. I must devote more time to it.

once your settlements get up and going you make quite a bit of money from them and the supplies they produce, shops sell decent things too

Yeah power is confusing me a lot. Is there some sort of tutorial for settlement building beyond the basic food/water/defence one?

Nope. It's kind of neat, but I can see wasting as much time doing that as I did playing golf in GTA. Moving on with the side quests!

For those that do like building stuff but want more room, make sure to do the Railroad quests. One of them involves setting up a base on an island on the bottom right portion of the map and it's huge, probably 3x the size of Sanctuary if not more. Should be interesting to see what people do with that kind of space once it becomes more well known

I hope Bethesda starts to patch for optimization soon.

I've been getting some pretty horrific frame rates lately. Turns the experience south pretty quick.

For me it's a bit overwhelming. You get way too many locations to build settlements and to try keep them all happy would be exhausting and boring. I just work on Sanctuary and pretend the others don't exist.

Yeah my frame rate seems like it's getting worse, especially in the city.

Was pretty jarring to go from silky smooth Star Wars Battlefront for a couple hours back to Fallout yesterday.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. Fallout 3 came out in 2008 and it still has some pretty bad frame rate issues.

My framerate drops to like 2/second when I try to look down scopes outdoors. Especially if any weather effects are going on.

I'm on PC running an i7-4770K and PowerColor HD7950
