A psychopath is often smart enough to smile right at you and convince you they're your friend when all they intend is to use you. It's a complex type of mental illness and requires substantial research to fully understand.
Who the heck are you arguing with here? Your post has nothing to do with what I wrote. My point was that you do not get tens of thousands of psychopaths all concentrated in one place. Truly evil people and psychopaths are very hard to come by. Otherwise normal, credulous people who can be convinced to practice harmful ideas en masse are widely available, and always have been throughout history. So even if you've got triple the normal population of psychopaths among ISIS, you've still got probably 97% of them who are not.

Frankly, I don't know your background but my understanding is that there is significant doubt as to whether psychopathy is even a thing - many psychologists at this point are skeptical that it may just be lumping a number of behavioural characteristics deemed to be "bad" together and calling it a condition. That's beside the point either way.

Yeah, it's not as though Nazi Germany was some weird outbreak of mass mental illness.

Huh.

This might be the first time on CP that I've ever witnessed a completely appropriate, sensible Godwin-ing of an issue.

To corroborate further, it was probably more like the bureaucratization of evil that allowed normal individuals to amorally distance themselves from the slaughter.

EODM issue a statement.

https://www.facebook.com/eaglesofdeathmetal/

While the band is now home safe, we are horrified and still trying to come to terms with what happened in France. Our thoughts and hearts are first and foremost with our brother Nick Alexander, our record company comrades Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser, and Manu Perez, and all the friends and fans whose lives were taken in Paris, as well as their friends, families, and loved ones.

Although bonded in grief with the victims, the fans, the families, the citizens of Paris, and all those affected by terrorism, we are proud to stand together, with our new family, now united by a common goal of love and compassion.

We would like to thank the French police, the FBI, the U.S. and French State Departments, and especially all those at ground zero with us who helped each other as best they could during this unimaginable ordeal, proving once again that love overshadows evil.

All EODM shows are on hold until further notice.

Vive la musique, vive la liberté, vive la France, and vive EODM.

Fans at the show post replies (many more to see at above link):

Maxime Dourlens They tried to kill me and my wife while dancing in front of our favorite band, thankfully they failed.
We saw what no one should have to see.
Our thoughts are with everyone who lost their lives and their relatives.
The healing can now begin, and it starts with listening to EODM again....
Peace, Love and Death Metal.

Claude Pfeiffer Hello I was there in The Bataclan, I have the chance to be just wounded, some friends are dead, it's hard to realize that horror, especially when I remember how the first part of the show was very good and there was a so good atmosphere in the place, in a few seconds it was hell on earth ! I hope you will in the next years come back to Paris, we have to win against fear and violence ! I love your music !

This is largely the same phenomenon of obscurantism about Islam as an ideology that is practiced by moderate Muslims.

When people point out the components of Islam that permit and encourage the behavior of ISIS, then moderate Muslims tend to come to the defense of the religion, rather than engaging in a discussions about how the religion needs to undergo a reformation.

It's also the reason I prefer to avoid the terms "radical" or "extreme" muslims, and choose to use the more accurate terms "strict" or "observant".

Strict or observant are still pretty vague terms. The current terminology that seems to be taking hold goes from "moderate" to "literalist" to "islamist" to "jihadi" - at least, some of that terminology found its way into the Democratic debate.

Moderate - practicing Muslims who either don't take portions of the faith seriously or choose to interpret it in a manner that accords well with secular democracy
Literalist - Strict adherents to the doctrines as written with little room for modern interpretations in their personal lives, but don't think that for example the USA should be run under Sharia.
Islamist - Taking the position that Islam should be a political vehicle and operate as the basis for government (e.g. Sharia should be the law), but that this should not be brought about by violence
Jihadi - Islamists who take the view that Islam should be imposed politically, including by the use of violence.

MORE: Paris prosecutor conflicts report, says suspected mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud not among those arrested in raid.

I know they were still sifting through body parts from this morning. His cousin was apparently the woman who blew herself up today during the police raid in Paris

Sounds like a Canadian, living in the U.S. for about 7 years now that is not an American speaking.

Honestly sounds like a broadcaster on Sportsnet...

As self sacrifice and strict adherence to a set of laws that are profoundly Spartan are a feature of ISIS it is almost here impossible that they are psychopaths, now the private black water guards that live in absolute comfort with plenty of food and booze interrupted occasionally by a trip into the community to machine gun the locals randomly, that's a gig for a psychopath.

Turkish soccer fans chant "Allahu Akbar" during Paris attacks remembrance

Turkey and Greece, neighbors that have been often vicious geopolitical rivals for centuries, have attempted in recent years to reconcile their differences, a move that's been given heightened importance during the growing migrant crisis.

Their soccer teams hadn't played each other in eight years, so Tuesday's friendly match in Istanbul presented an opportunity for a power symbolic display of peace and reconciliation.

Instead, Turkish soccer fans booed and hissed loudly during the moment of silence for victims of the Paris attacks last week, and could even be heard chanting "Allahu Akbar," during the brief pause before kickoff.

You see, I feel all this sympathy and defend Muslims but when #### like that happens during a general gathering of normal muslims, it makes it really hard to remember why. Shows that this hate they have towards the west extends into some of the general muslim population, and not just the extreme right.

That is disgusting. I mean what kind of a ####ed up human being would do that?
