Would a Russell + one of our better d prospects (Culkin/Kulak/Wotherspoon) get it done?
Can't see BT trading one of the top 3 d on our team, and it is unlikely that the Isles would want Wideman.

I wonder if maybe some of the guys on our AHL list might get it done?
Perhaps Wideman to step into Hamonic's shoes right now as well as maybe some up-and-comer's like Nakladal or Kylington for the future?
The dollars for them arent great, but they've got a bit of space.
Because its unlikely that they're going to get a player of Hamonic's ability, age and contract straight across.

Top player and a great guy off the ice too.
The Isles would want a lot, but I would really like to see him here.

Should be noted that Hamonic does not have a NTC/NMC of any form. Islanders don't have to honour his list.

And a Hamilton - Hamonic pairing would be hilariously awesome from a nicknaming perspective. Loubardias would have a field day.

The other question is, if this is affecting him so much that he needs to be closer to home, is it also affecting his play? I haven't watched much Islanders hockey this year, but it looks like his offensive stats have dropped off a lot. And they weren't as good to begin with as I thought...
To me, a first pairing defenseman in today's NHL should be putting up at least .5 points per game. His contract is cheap, but to me he looks more like a 2nd pairing guy based on the numbers. I only have heard good things about his play though, so maybe he makes up for it with his defensive play.

They could equally want a top level forward, of which the Oilers have a few. But then, they probably value Hall, Eberle, RNH far too highly, which as you say might rule them out straight away. Interesting.

Several sources indicate Snow is not interested in a picks or prospects type of return. He’s looking for equal-level replacement.

Interesting idea that might actually work. Trouba coming off his ELC in a year they need to extend Scheifele, Ladd, Byfuglien. It's not a matter of them not liking Trouba, but more of a $ move. Especially with Hamonic on a pretty damn sweet deal signed long term.

Isn't Justin Schultz close to returning? Edmonton definitely needs to make a decision on what they are going to do with their backend.

One thing is for sure, BT has known about this since Hamonic asked for a trade.
Hopefully Snow gets annoyed enough with BT calling everyday that we get Hamonic for Wideman straight up.

True but an acquiring team would then likely be in the same position as the Isles. If he gets moved, it only makes sense to meet his request.

Perhaps Brad wants to take Garth to Splash Mountain?

No, a hockey player of similar talents, age, development, and trajectory is a replacement for another hockey player of similar talents, age, development, and trajectory.
Nothing you've linked to supports your assertion that the Islanders have stated that they will only accept a defenseman in any deal for Hamonic.

So if you're looking to replace an employee who works in the IT department, you'd replace them with someone who works in Marketing if they have the same upside?
