Why would you play him 1 more game and then have him need to be waiver eligible. A faceoff guy like that is someone I can see a few teams taking a flyer on.
|
Because he is one of our 14 best forwards so should never need to go on waivers.

I'll assume Brodie has a maintenance day.
Even though Ramo's play has been much improved, he's still only had one win in the last 4 starts. Glad to have Hiller back, His turn to go for a run.
Don't like when a player who is playing well is being sent down, but there's two very good reasons he is being sent down. I get it.

Hiller doesn't look limited in practice today, either. Taking normal shots through rushes. #Flames

This is not true what so ever.
He played a very small sample size and was a 4th liner at best outside of his faceoff ability. I can only imagine the CP wrath should he play 5 more games and lose a bit of that jump, get replaced by someone from Stockton and be claimed.
It is purely a numbers game and while Treliving is figuring out what to do with the roster, he made the safe play which does not involve losing anyone.
Edit: And when I say 4th liner at best, I am not knocking his game.... he played very well in that role and our 4th line was one of the most consistent. He will be back once the roster is figured out.

I hope they send Hiller to Stockton for a conditioning stint before he draws back in. It's not like he was lighting the world on fire when he got injured.

I would basically argue that he doesn't need to be waived, he deserves to stay up. Why not Raymond? He's been useless. I would also waive a goalie over Grant at this point. No one is picking up the craptacular goal tending Calgary has rolled out this year.

At the end of the day you are saying to take a "risk" on a move that involves losing a roster player when Brad and Brian are making the safe play which guarantees nobody is lost.

Raymond needs to clear waivers again to be sent down.

Agreed, the "we'd lose him to waivers" argument is a terrible one as he's been playing better than a few roster players. They should be put on waivers first.

If someone claimed Raymond off of waivers, I'd send them a case of beer.

Certain guys we would be happy to lose on waivers today could also yield a late draft pick near the deadline towards a playoff team with injuries. I would not be shocked at all to see a team like the rangers or penguins or ducks interested in a Bollig, Hiller, Ramo or Raymond at the deadline (assuming they need bodies which so many teams do that time of year)

1 way and 2 way contracts...... this happened several times last year and CP didn't seem to mind as they understood it was a numbers / contract game. Now we have a terrible record and people want to start risking giving away assets for free.

As much as I don't think Bollig is a player, sometimes the "earn" part goes back further than a few games

It's not intellectually honest seeing as how he isn't a post apex player.
Which other buzzword team cliches can we shoehorn in here? Not a huge deal. Brodie's missing? I bet he's the sweetener to get Duchene, Barrie, and Varlamov since the standard "all of our garbage for their good players" package doesn't look to be getting it done

I would assume they are planning on keeping Ortio. Would've made more sense for him to go through waivers then Grant. Management probably still has hopes for Ortio to turn it around

Turn what around exactly? He's had 2 starts.
He actually has to play to see if those were bad outings on his part, poor defense in front of him, etc.

Risking giving assets away for free?
If someone took Bollig or Raymond for free I'd send them a fruit basket.
