My one vehicle has TMPS and if I swap the tires myself, I also re-calibrate. I found the instructions online. Really it's a few minutes of getting it into "learn" mode, and then a couple more minutes per tire. I just don't want the dashboard sqawking at me all winter; more than anything else.

Don't know what you have for a vehicle, but I picked up a calibration tool for my GMC for ~$100 so I can do it myself each season.

i will have to do some reasearch into the learn process for my vehicle (2009 ford explorer) - too bad the vehicle can't remember more than one set of sensors.

I'm too cheap for a tpms sensor. I just run them on my winters so I don't have to check pressure when its -30 outside. Summer is when I do all my car maintenance anyways

My dad also saved money buying paper, envelopes and stamps instead of a computer to send email. He also saves money by getting the Metro newspaper instead of having the internet.

So you keep checking your tire pressure manually every day, and I'll keep the smartphone app I have that does it for me.

Yes I bought the tool off Amazon, I haven't tried letting the air out yet to see if it works on the 09's

It's not even just the tool for calibrating it. I don't even have sensors in my winter tires and I have no intention of getting them.

What is the recommended inflation for storage of tires? Normal inflation, or reduced?

10-12psi. If you are storing them outside in the winter but inflate when they are around room temperature then set them to 15psi.

Do you mind if I ask why you reduce the PSI for storage? I've never heard of this before. I just take them off and stack them up in my garage. By the time I put them on next year, they usually need a little top up at the gas station, no big deal.

Just wanted to give a recommendation for Tire Doctors. They are the guys who come to your house with a tire changing truck and do it in your garage or driveway.

Been using them for a few years now. Guy came early this AM, and installed winters on my wife's car in about a half hour. I ended up paying when he arrived, and left for work. He called me after he was done, and I used my Chamberlin myQ to shut my garage door from work. Wasn't even late.

Down side is cost, it cost $100 to do the swap. However, if your like me and have 2 kids, a busy job, and no time, they are a great option for doing a tire swap.

You'd have to ask the tire manufacturers they recommend to store tires if on wheels with a reduced pressure. I don't think it is a big deal either but if they say to do it can't hurt. The biggest thing is to keep the rubber away from sunlight and in a storage bag (polyethylene).

Hmmm - didn't realize you needed to put them in a bag as well. I've never done that either and don't seem to have any issues with longevity.

I guess I wonder how storing tires seem to have all these rules, but when they are on your car I'm sure they are subjected to much more abuse. I'm having a hard time believing my tires that are just sitting uncovered in my garage are going to have issues versus ones that are stored in a bag. Maybe I'm just out to lunch on this...

If I notice some vibration at high speeds with the regular tires, does that mean that the winter tires will have to be rebalanced. Or, is that just for the regulars when they go back on?
