Just awesome stuff. . . I especially like the intro to the second night.

Another album I recently (several months ago I guess) is Islands - Return to the Sea. They seem to like using a bunch of different sounds to make music and it really works on songs like "Rough Gem" and "Don't call me Whitney, Bobby".
Jon Spencer is god.

For those who like pop/indie/alternative stuff:

Gatsbys American Dream - Self Titled
The Format - Dog Problems

Strictly Pop/Punk:

The Fold - This Too Shall Pass
Hit The Lights - This Is A Stickup...

And for more straightforward rock:

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Don't You Fake It

Are a few of my favorites for the year.

"the Band" by the Band. Real band, hayday in 60's 70's. Back up band for Bob Dylan, hense the name.

Recognizable song: the night they drove old dixie down

A very recognizable song they did not on that album is "the Weight" the name is probably not widely known, but if you hear you'll remember it.

Fat Boy Slim Greatest hits/Why try harder

FlamesAddiction: I like your list!

Here's mine:

Any Pixies album!
Frank Black - Teenager of the Year
Frank Black - Show me Your Tears
Any Bad Religion Album
Any Anti-Flag Album
Intro5pect - Intro5pect (they have a very interesting sound like techno meets punk rock)

Anyone into podcasts? Here are the ones I enjoy:

Calgary Flames - Flames podcast from their official site
FrankBlack.net - lots of Frank Black and Pixies. Including interviews with Frank Black himself.
Fat Wreck Podcast - good punk rock. hosted by Fat Mike from NoFX. Very funny. (available on the fat wreck website)
Punk Rock Demonstration with Jack - lots of good punk rock from lesser known bands to bigger bands. There are over 40 episodes since it started in 2005. I havn't listened to all of them but so far ep 18 is my favorite.

Troutman, you've just made my day. I had no idea that there was a new Yo La Tengo album coming out. The advance tracks on their website sound promising... much more like And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out, and less like Summer Sun, which I was pretty disappointed with.

I actually like his vocals. There are far more grating singers like Bob Dylan, and Geddy Lee (but I like both of them too). There are singers that have a technically great voice like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, and then there are singers that have a great VOICE - singers with a distinctive sound and that have something to say.

I think it is interesting how Bejar hums the choruses or does la-la-las. The verses are pretty much spoken. The word play is fantastic.

For fans of the Canadian indie scene check out new music from members of Stars.. Amy Millan has a solo record out.. The few songs I've heard from it are pretty good. Much more of an Iron and Wine style bluegrass sound to it. Also Torquil Campbell has a new record out under the name of Memphis. I heard a few songs from the website and on CKUA this afternoon. Pretty good stuff.

What? Isn't My Morning Jacket's live album out in October? Or am I wrong and its out already? They are amazing. Can't wait to get the DVD too.

I highly recommend Cold as the Clay. It's a solo album by Greg Graffin, the lead singer of Bad Religion. It was released in 2006 and features appearances by the Weakerthans.

I'd describe it as folk and a little bit country, reminiscent of classic Neil Young. It's a beautiful and relaxing album, and really surprising considering its coming from the lead singer of a heavy and fast punk/hardcore band. It can't hurt to give it a try.
