This is what they're coached to do.
Our strategy is to prevent the puck from getting to the net in the first place, and it leaves guys open. It's an actual part of our system to leave the front of the net that exposed. The D are supposed to step forward and block the shot or intercept the pass.
...maddening, no?

Watch the goal again. Brodie is covering one, then turns and skates towards the hash marks for some reason while another player sneaks in, leaving 2 guys standing in front with no coverage on either
