Johansen out of Columbus would be amazing! Another big bodied centre to go with Monahan. I'm sure they'd ask for Bennett in return though, which I think is a no go

I wonder what it will cost for Duchene? Do the Avs go rebuild again and ask for picks and prospects?
Flames could do a mix as a piece like Backlund has to go the other way
A package of Backlund, Russell, Porier, Culkin (former Roy player from junior) would be a lot to part with but worth it. Avs could flip Russell for a second + at the deadline or keep him long term. Backlund would slide as a 3rd line C behind Mackinnon and Soderberg. Porier and Culkin are 21 year old prospects that could be in the league fairly soon.
Flames get a dynamic albeit inconsistent forward who is only 24 and would fit in nicely with the Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Brodie, Hamilton young core.
I do think the Avs look east of Duchene is moved

I wonder if Hudler and Klimchuk get it done?
On a bigger scale if need be, Hudler and Backlund + 2nd for Johansen and Hartnell ( on a terrible deal until 2019, but real numbers decline..) Would it entice Kokalainen?

Think of it like this. Johansen is their version of Monahan except he already has a 70 plus point season under his belt.
A ufa forward and an average prospect is not even close

Both those deals would be robbery. I'm all for it but a solid GM like Kokalainen I don't think ever would.

Perfect. That still leaves us Agostino to pick up Drouin.

I dunno about the 2nd deal involving Hartnell. They have alot of guys like him ATM and could use some top 6 skill. His contract at 4.75 for the next 4 years is gonna start looking bad sooner than later, if not already. Hartnell isn't exactly lighting it up.

It sounds like there are about to be more d-men on the market in the next little while. Treliving might not be overwhelmed with the offers that he is getting on Russell and wideman, but those may diminish with ottawa and others joining the fray.

This has quickly become a rebuilding year. 6 games below .500 is a deep hole so this team should be planning for the future.
I hope Brad works to open up cap space to not only re-sign Gaudreau and Monahan to their big deals but has some wiggle room to get a goalie and a top 6 forward.
Hudler, Russell, Jones for picks. If Colborne wants more than $2.5M then ship him out.
Also best of luck moving the group of Wideman, Smid, Engellend, and Raymond.

In a way the season may be looked at as a blessing. If they play good enough to be in the playoff race Treliving may feel pressure to lock up Russell and Hudler to keep the team together. The Giordano contract is bad enough but adding Russell and/or Hudler to long term deals would have crippled this team going forward. Also Treliving learned a hard but valuable lesson in goaltending management. Sometimes you have to take one step back to take two steps forward and this is my hopes.

Very good point. Supply and demand could comeback and bite us. It also seems that teams might be more interested in younger defenceman that may become/are available like cam fowler.
Bottom line is that I think that some of our players may have low trade appeal despite what some in the media have speculated. Our players may have more value to us than to other teams which may explain why no deals.

Would Backlund + Poirier or Klimchuk + 2016 second rounder get us Duschene?
Backs is a reliable 3rd line centre. Emile or Morgan are late first round picks. And the 2nd round will be in the 31-37 range.

Would have to think the Av's are going to want a top 4 Dman as part of the return. I will say it now, they will not want Wideman.

Yep. The talks start with Brodie. Hope people are smart enough to understand no one wants our scraps especially when they're underperforming scraps at that.

Yes, but if we pool all of our scraps together their value is limitless.

Am I the only one against picking up another C? Duchene and Johansen are good and I'd be elated if we got them without sacrificing our prospects of course...
But our top 3 C are Monahan, Bennett and Backlund. Disturbing that mix irks me if only due to my attachment to these guys. I like them quite a bit and love the looks of having those 3 down the middle. It essentially pushes Backlund out, and Monahan down to 3rd line. Right now, I'm sure a lot on here will be advocates of doing just that but it'll be sad to see a shakeup where I think we're so strong.
Talk to me about a big RWer!

If we can somehow get Duchene out of Colorado without giving up Gaudreau, Bennett or Monahan, I'd be shocked.

Duchene for Hamilton - not a trade I can see happening for many reasons but seems close value and needs wise for both organizations

Hudler, Wideman and Russell's value, along with many others are going to have a ton of value at the trade deadline, no?!
Russell also is still the NHL shot blocking leader, is decent in his own end and always a threat offensively.
Wideman is a great pickup for teams looking to bolster their PP.
Hudler should be in high demand to round out a top 6.
Wouldn't surprise me if Hudler was able to garner a later 1st rounder and maybe a B prospect on too.
Would think Russell could pull in a decent prospect or potentially a 2nd and 3rd.
Wideman, well... Who knows but I think there will be interest.
Does treliving wait it out?
Also, if we are looking for a starting goalie to carry the franchise long term, please stop saying Ward.. He could be a short term solution but he is not the goalie of the future..
