As a private company, Starbucks are free to do whatever they wish with their cups. If you don't want a red cup, don't go to Starbucks until after Christmas or bring your own mug. If you disagree with the cups, the best way to voice your displeasure is to hurt them where it counts - their bottom line. Everyone is entitled to no more and no less.

I really wonder how much honest to goodness outrage there TRULY is out there about these stupid cups. Seems like one of those stupid Facebook things where people blow shiat waaay out of proportion because they like being dramatic martyrs for their respective causes. This seems so blatanty manufactured like those pins in candy stories that were coming out around Halloween. Even if a couple people are "offended", I say let them scream their little heads off about it. The response to their faux outrage is making this "debate" a whole lot louder than it ought to be.

I would question Starbucks' marketing involvement in this pseudo-controversy.
Religious nut-cases vs Starbuck's choice of cup colouring makes Starbucks look pretty good.
We need an Abe Simpson meme yelling at a Starbuck's cup.

I agree with you that no one should be offended regardless of what people say.
But I take issue who say happy holidays or season greetings if the reason is to avoid offending people. If the reason you use happy holidays is because that's what you want to wish people have at her. But faux Pc and Faux outrage really shouldn't be part of it.

You do realize that government and corporate institutions are not people with beliefs? They are social constructs that people of all different faiths participate in. But yes, I guess you could say including minority groups dilutes the experience for the majority. However, minority groups still pay taxes that support those government organizations and have the right to choose whether or not to spend money to corporations.
Also, if you're such a big time atheist, why not just drop the word "Christ" from the name of your celebration? Is that going to stop you from getting together with family and friends. Does that change your tradition in any way? According to you it's an atheist tradition with Celtic roots. Therefore, wouldn't removing the reference to the Christian holiday not further re-affirm your Celtic roots? Maybe it's time to shed that Christian oppression you Celtic pagans have suffered under for so long?
Once again, I don't really care about any of this stuff, but you're talk about "diluting" the dominant culture I find a bit troubling. Even in the current example, no one is chastising Starbucks for the multitude of Christmas references they have (and there are many). It's not an example of PC thuggery. It's the exact opposite crowd who is up in arms here and feigning offence. If find your line of argument similar to the ultra-religious crowd who says they are being persecuted against because they can't properly express their hatred of homosexuals.

I haven't seen one of these in person yet, but I'm curious: In some of the photos, it looks like the colour is a red gradient, darker on the bottom and lighter on the top.
Is it a gradient or is it one solid red colour and just lit that way in the photos?

I'm holding one right now.
Its a minor gradient, the bottom is slightly darker but its not that noticeable to begin with.
Personally I like the design of the cup but at the end of the day once I'm finished drinking my coffee it'll end up in the waste basket and that's it.

I have searched high and low, and cannot find anyone save the same few attention seekers up on arms. So outside of 5 or 6 people, who's upset?
Seriously, this seems more like outrage over outrage than any sort of serious complaints

How ridiculous is that... people get offended over lack of certain symbols while another, the pagan siren, is the figurehead or macot. Talk about picking the wrong battles.

Who is actually battling it though? I haven't come across anyone in real life or the internet that is offended at the lack of snowflakes or what have you.

LOL, go read Starbucks' fb page. It's hilarious. I am just waiting for that guy to come troll the trolls on their page. He just finished with Campbell's Kitchen.

I don't get the outrage from saying "Merry Christmas". If someone wished me a "Happy Hanukkah" or a "Joyous Kwanzaa" I wouldn't be offended.
If you don't celebrate Christmas, why can't I wish you a happy one? The holiday exists. Just because you don't celebrate it doesn't mean you can't have a pleasant day.
I don't celebrate weekends, or evenings, per say; that said if someone says "Have a great weekend" or "have a good evening" I don't get offended.
How negative and sour of a person do you have to be to be upset with someone wishing you well?

Meh, maybe it's cool now to not complain about the change in design but i could care less. I like the designed cups better. Matter of fact, got a coffee from mcdonalds today, had the same snowflake design on it that starbucks had. Was kind of nice.
It's winter, it's cold and it's dark early, if i can get a cup with a bit of effort on it, i'll take it.
