Losing Byron is not likely the reason the Flames are doing so bad, but he was not a 4th liner.
He played in 57 games last year and averaged 14:28. He had 6 games with 4th line minutes (less than 12) He had 21 games with top-6 minutes (more than 15). In 2013-14 he had 47 games with the Flames averaging 14:27.
Over the last 6 games the highest paid Flame forward has averaged 15:30...
Do you consider Frolik a 4th liner? Didn't think so.
But after his first 10 games where he got 16-18 minutes / game he is basically getting Byron's ice time this year.
