[PRESS RELEASE] Isles acquire Krejci and Johansen in 3 way deal
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 11th, 2015
GM Simmer is pleased to announce the acquisition of both David Krejci and Ryan Johansen. He completed lengthy negotiations this morning at 10:05am MST time with both the New Jersey Devils and Pittsburgh Penguins.
The deal breaks down as follows:
To Devils
Matt Duchene
Conner Bleackley
2 2nd Rndrs (17')
To Pens
Teuvo Teravanien
Derrick Pouliot
1st (16') LA
To Isles
David Krejci
Ryan Johansen
GM Simmer had this to say about the deal.
"The CPHL has a lot of very smart GM's who know a good player when they have them and it is difficult to pry them loose. When we heard Johansen was on the block we immediately called up Goffie. He wasn't interested in the package we had to offer but said there were a few guys he would like to have, Teuvo being one of them.
We went to the Devils and offered Duchene as part of the package. We hate giving up Duchene as we think he is an elite centre, but the opportunity of having a 1/2 punch of Johansen and Krejci was too much to pass up.
This move gives the Isles some much needed firepower down the middle and more importantly allows us solid assets to build our team around.
We had to give up a lot of futures in this deal, but we need the Isles to be competitive, and it's more fun when you are winning.
Thanks Goffie and 3Thirty for the lengthy but fun deals.

That's a great looking trade. I'm not sure who is the winner here. Probably NYI in the short term. Long term is anybody's guess.

first of all, congrats gents for completing this. Can't imagine how long this took
really like the Johansen part for the Isles, not totally sure about the Krejci/Duchene swap. Effectively that's Duchene, Bleackley, Pouliot, a 1st and two 2nds for Johansen and Krejci ... which is a ton of good young assets to give up, but in return they are set at C for years to come, which is obviously fantastic.
fun gamble for Pittsburgh. I'm not totally convinced that Teravainen is a 1st liner in the long run, but if he is, then that deal will look nice for them in a couple of years. The Penguins are a loaded team obviously, so why not?
Hell of a deal for the Devils. Well done sir.

Well this one was a tough trade to make. We are very high on Johansen and a big fan in the NHL. However the recent acquisition of Seguin as well as the great play of Couture since he came on board made him expendable.
Simmer came hard after him from the get go and made all his players available. From the start the value wasn't an issue to me as Simmer laid things on the line and I like when teams push hard to acquire assets that make their team better. The key was finding a piece that had a personal appeal to me. Teravainen was that piece. I wanted a forward as part of the package and when the Isles got one I liked the deal was done.
We hope Teravainen and Pouillot pan out as we don't see the Kings pick staying very high for very long. But it is always fun to pick up draft picks.

Totally here you. But the Isles do not have the luxury of waiting for futures to maybe turn into something.
The way I broke it down was:
Duchene = Johansen for the most part
Bleackley + Pouliot + 1st + 2 2nds < Krejci
Getting true #1 rated centers in this league I think are the hardest assets to acquire and i was willing to pay.

I give a huge amount of credit to Goffie for moving a top asset like Johansen for solid futures, but still futures.
I wish more teams were willing to make moves rather than hold onto guys...this league thrives on trades and activity. And this is tough to have when teams aren't willing to take chances and make moves.

Really impressive deal all around and like others, I enjoy seeing these things get done! I think its a pretty even deal, although I'm not huge on Duchene at this point. Of course that doesn't mean he's a plug either!

I wish that was the case as well. The problem is that from my perspective the assets I get offered for young pieces are largely aging and declining veterans. So as a GM who wants to see that activity, and knowing the league thrives on it, I think its a bigot of a catch 22. The deals where young talent moves for vets is basically how the rich get richer. So you have these teams where we have so few of these young assets and probably should make some deals, but then its super hard to find a deal where the long term deal has any balance.
