DSP plays behind Gaudreau, Hudler, Frolik, Colborne, Jones, Bouma, Ferland on the flames. If we picked him up it would be to play on the 4th line. An earlier post suggested Hudelr at 50% retained!! Insanity! Also 20 year old Emile Porier who was an AHL all star a year ago? Crazy over valuing DSP

DSP scored a career high 20pts in 74 games last year as a 22 year old. I would trade David Jones for him but nothing more

Outside of fan excitement why does he necessarily play behind Ferland?

I also would prefer him to Jones and with your list seems like he still fits in as the 8th winger on the team when all those guys listed are healthy which has been rare (or maybe never) this season.

I'd add a big, physical shut down defenceman to that list. A guy like Smid when he was good.

I like your thinking but would argue team needs size as well. One area that could come is in a Hudler upgrade - a bigger body with skill. That is not going to be easy to find.

So you would trade a top prospect like Porier to get him? Ferland maybe hasn't played as much but made a bigger name for himself thanks to the playoffs. It would be like trading Ferland for Rychel I doubt the Jackets consider that. DSP is at best a 3rd liner you don't trade former first round picks with top 6 upside to get him.

I would have no problem trading Poirier for DSP but I don't have near the same projection for him that you seem to have.

Does anyone reckon we could prise Hayes out of the Rangers? Or would they turn us down flat/make the asking price too high?

No way that guy is available unless you blew their socks off.

I still don't get how some on here value Devante Smith Pelle so highly. The ducks traded him for a project player essentially when someone on here said that the guy was "untouchable". The habs have him playing a checking role and the guy has never had that good of a season. He's big and tough... that's about it. If he was so great, the habs would have him on one of their top lines because they need size and skill.

Some fans on here seem like they'd want a team full of 3rd or 4th line players just so the Flames are "tough to play against". I'd rather hold on to Porier as he could turn into a second line player with speed, skill and wouldn't be undersized instead of having a big 3rd-4th line guy. If DSP was a free agent, what kind of contract do you think he'd get? maybe 2-3 mil tops? This team needs skill for the top 2 lines, not another "grinder" who can't put up points.

While I hope that DSP isn't the primary return...

I DO like the idea of dangling Porier infront of MTL just to see how much they love a slight French-speaking speedy winger

Could get interesting in Colorado

@adater: Hearing rumblings Varlamov could be in play as Avs trade bait. The word is could. Interesting discussions going on though

@adater: Iginla to Montreal at deadline. If Avs are out of it by then, very good chance this could happen https://t.co/jj3YIUXfLP

@adater: No. I think the Avs will trade Duchene this year though. https://t.co/YNOXVe0Hau

@adater: Things very turbulent right now with Avs brass. This record won't stand without a shakeup.Next 2 weeks will say a lot https://t.co/dheDaT7Yty

Varlamov would be interesting. Would be an upgrade in net but at same time would last years off ice incident dampen interest?

Why would we shop Porier unless he is part of the package for a legit top 6 forward under the age of 27. Like if the Flames went after JVR and Porier was part of the deal then maybe.

I look at the Habs and do not see a single player i would want (that they would move). Not a good fit

Duchene would be an amazing pickup. I don't see any way we can do it while keeping our current core of 6 (Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Gio, Brodie, Hamilton) in tact.

Varlomov would also be worth a gamble but couldn't give up a first like the Avs did

Personally, I hope Varlamov is no-where near our locker room

Was this ever proven with a conviction? Likely a plea bargain of some sort, but it still makes me wonder what the actual truth might be on this.

the whole domestic abuse thing with Varlamov looks to be his ex-girlfriend trying to get money from him.

There were no charges.
