He should be playing in the the All Star game though? He's already a top player in the league so he should make the All Star by default right?

Maybe radio shows can squeeze in a chance to micro-analyze a really fortunate bounce that went the winning team's way, with the "Connor McDavid break of the game."

Kind of funny 'Stalking Connor' spoof of the Mess/Connor Rodgers commercials from 1260 Edmonton radio. 4 episodes of this riveting saga now

Sadly, I suspect that although this was in green text, they'll find some way to get him there even if it's his first game post-injury.

If he wanted to learn things, he should have faked not being able to do a pull-up.

I think Bennett has the bigger upside, but I suspect if the Greasers had taken him, we would have taken Draisaitl. He's been much more impressive this season than last, and looks like a very solid pick

If the Oilers had taken Bennett, they would have had him play through his shoulder injury last season.
I'm not even joking in the slightest.

This. Draisaitl has gained a step this season - seems more explosive and his skating has been a non-issue - lots of work done over the summer on this front seems to be paying off for him. Looks like a different player this year - looks ready to be an NHL'er. But as always, the risk in making broad judgments based on small sample sizes always applies.....

Playing on the wing has helped his game the most. He's a smart player with good offensive instincts but too slow to be a full time centre at this level. He isn't needed down the middle for the Oilers either so it works out well for them.

The two guys who should be thanking their lucky stars that the Oilers got McDavid are Draisatl and Yakupov. Draisatl now has no pressure to develop into a centre for the Oilers and can continue to play on the wing. Yakupov will probably increase his next contract's value by at least a couple million per season because of McDavid.

Plus his real strength is board play and soft deft passes. Neither of which are as useful for a center

Absolutely correct on this point.
Last year after Aarom Ekblad there was no consensus pick for the next few spots in the draft. Sam Reinhart, Draisaitl, and Bennett were ranked about equal and it was a toss up as to which team would pick whom. Buffalo obviously chose Reinhart. At the time the Oilers had only only one legitimate centre and a fairly small forward corps. Draisaitl is much bigger than Bennett and I am convinced that is the major reason he was picked. Nothing against Bennett, the Oilers just could not turn down a big body. The Flames were going to get a great pick regardless, and it just happened to be Bennett.

Draisaitl has been playing a lot of center since Mcdavid went down. Played with Hall and Eberle 2 out of the 3 last games IIRC.

Watch him this year. He has not been slow at all. Really worked on foot speed in the offseason.
Check out the replay from his back check in OT against Anaheim that led to the winning goal.

Only caught a glimpse of the Duck game but wasn't he on the right side of Hall and Nugent-Hopkins in that one? Regardless, for the Oilers he'll be the defacto guy who gets shifted to wing if Hall and Nugent-Hopkins are healthy.
As for his speed, it's better but I maintain his role will be as a winger. Once he gets going he has a decent stride but he's not even as quick as Monahan, who is on the lower end of the skating you'd like in a top line center.
I actually like Drasisitl, would have been okay if he dropped to the Flames in 2014. Bennet will be better or more important as a centre, but I've been saying that since before the draft so being consistent there.
