That's what I'm hoping for as well. It's just so tough to leave a decent scoring forward on the board for a d-man that will net you about 10 or so less points.

It's actually one of the great points about a pool like this........who's strategy is better?

I've done other pools where points are accumulated for a players plus minus, as well as other stats like penalty minutes. that makes you think a little more about which defencemen you want to pick, as well as forwards (don't want a player that gets 70 pts, but is -20).

In pools where you get points just by players accumulating points, it is tough to use a high draft pick for a forward.

I'm not going to pick a high ranking defenceman over a high ranking forward (who'll probably get more points) when, in all probability, the high ranking forward wont be around for my next pick.

This is my first pool, so maybe my logic is flawed, but isnt more points a better thing?

Of course, the thing is what sort of d-men or goalies will be around later? Do you take an 80 point forward now and a 30 point d-man later, or a 60 point d-man now and a 50 point forward later? Those are the choices you'll have to weigh.......same for goalies. It's totally up to you what kind of gameplan you're going with.

I've got Jagr, Briere, and Zubov. Zubov and Briere would have been my picks at 22 and 23, so I'm very glad to have them. Zubov, IMO, was the best defenseman available, and Briere, if his PPG are an indication, could have a huge season if healthy. Right now, I've again got two guys I'm hoping will slip to me... but as I PMed JiriHrdina too many picks last time, I doubt I'll get both of 'em.

My overall philosphy is to not get risky with the first 3 picks of my draft. Hossa is among the most consistent guys in the NHL the last few years and will get me enough points with my first pick. Same with Burnaby Joe - won't win an Art Ross but will get me the PPG I need from a high pick.

My strategy with Bergeron is that worst case he gets around 70-75 points and if he breaks out he could be a steal for the third round.

I've landed Arnott, Zetterberg and Alfredsson. Alfredsson is a consistent 100 point guy who on that magical line last year hopefully can repeat. I'm hoping Arnott on Nashville's top line can create some major damage.

I tried to pick guys that I didn't think had a history of too many injury problems in the past... although Arnott may have I think at one point. In past pools, injuries have always been what dooms me.

Actually, Alfedsson has only hit the 100 point barrier once, and that was last season. That being said, he should get a lot of points again this year. Pretty safe pick.

The guy I had pegged for my selection in the 3rd round was Bergeron. I was really hoping to get him there. I'm optimistic that Boyes and Bergeron have a Spezza & Heatley thing going. If so, I think both could be worthy of the high selection. The good players are going fast. With such a large number of teams those last couple of picks could be pretty iffy.

The hardest thing is to get good value for a pick. Cole was a guy I thought might do well this season and I couldn't risk not taking him this round. I didn't think he would last another 39 selections. Same deal with Boyes.

Lets hope he can stay healthy... on last year's pace at a full season he should at or just over 90 pts... so here's hoping he will be dynamite.

I disagree (and I'm not trying to console you, even though I stole Selanne from you). Jokinen and Pronger are great picks. Rolston could be sketchy, since he may not be playing with Gaborik this season, but he could still do well for a 4th round pick. Bertuzzi could go either way. He is going to be playing with Jokinen. will their egos collide?
