Default The War on Christmas Thread

Starbucks firing the first shot?

Quote:
Some people are angry about Starbucks’ new holiday cups. Really angry.

What is the issue, exactly?

In previous years, Starbucks’ iconic holiday cups, which the chain uses in lieu of white cups in November and December, featured wintry or Christmas-themed designs like snowflakes, ornaments and nature scenes. This year, the cups are more minimalist -- a red ombre design
I wouldn't say I'm angry about it but it is sad that Christmas has to be reduced to cups with no snowflakes.

Are snowflakes and nature scenes considered Christmas now? I thought we called that winter.

Society is becoming too sensitive to multiculturalism and should be more sensitive to my needs as a religious person.

That cup has no place in our society. Needs more complex over-design to stimulate my ADD.

Seems like more of a design decision than anything. If Starbucks wanted to not acknowledge the holidays, wouldn't they just keep the cups the same? The red is clearly Santa themed.

Also, when did your right to practice a religion include a right to a holiday themed item from a massive corporate chain? Nothing says religious piety like a venti latte.

I just think that these "issues" have to be the lamest thing to get upset about. Who cares? Starbucks is a private company. If they want to have blue cups or pink cups or whatever, how angry can you possibly be? Reading about people who somehow think that they "beat the system" by telling the barista that their name is Merry Christmas is maybe the only thing stupider. Congratulations. You just took a stand on a complete non-issue and accomplished absolutely nothing.

The red seems far more Christmasy than a random winter scene.

I hope Starbucks reconsiders they decision and replaces the current red cup design with a design featuring Ben Carson and Santa.

If this is something that gets your knickers in a knot, whether you're religious or not, then you have some real issues and you need to seek some sort of intervention. And if all it takes is a cup to destroy your faith, I'd posit that your faith was pretty weak to begin with.

lol I wonder how many of the people bitching about the lack of Christmas themed cups (like there's seriously not enough Christmas BS all over the place) actually have gone to church, even just for Christmas, in the last year?

If people celebrate Christmas or the birth of Christ, it is deemed offensive in this country now.

But who run Starbucks or big corporations in America and make these decisions? Most of them are middle aged WASP which makes this "Christmas is offensive" politically correct movement ironic.

Pretty soon, you'll hear people saying Merry Christmas in China & India more often than you'll in North America.
