US sources saying they have info to suggest that a bomb was planted on the plane with help from someone at the airport and it was an ISIS device.

FWIW, it's the same in Russian - we call it "carpet bombing". Seems like both Russia and Egypt are trying to brush off ISIS bomb suggestion. OTOH, it seems like Obama and Cameron are eagerly suggesting it withough sufficient grounds (yet). For the sake of the world (and my country) peace I nearly want it that even if it was ISIS bomb, everyone would pretend it was something else.

Russia because they hate the truth and Egypt because they need the tourism dollars.

Fact, the tail section was found whole 5 kms away from the rest of the plane, the chances of a modern airliner loosing the whole tail section in mid flight without an explosion is almost impossible if not totally impossible, considering the fuselage with wings attached(this is where the fuel tanks are) hit the ground together says something grave happened to blow it apart from the tail.

Walks like a duck = duck
Talks like a duck = duck

Bomb = duck

No doubt, ISIS bomb is very unconvinient to russian government and scary to russian tourist.Watching TV news about how our glorious army is bombing the hell out of ISIS is one thing and watching our jet being downed like that is completely different and this could change public opinion greatly, even if public opinion may not matter as much, as one could think. While Putin may respond with bringing real armagedon to ISIS, people - as far, as I can see - would rather lean toward caring about our internal Russian matters, letting the west care about ISIS and letting Asad care about himself. Waging a war in Syria for some vague interests doesn't outweight the risk of dying in the airplane crash for the vast majority of russians.

That said, it's still a bit premature to call it "truth". Could the tail be cut off by the parts of exploded engine (honest question, one of the theories in Russia is that engine exploded and parts of it cut the plane like a knife through the butter, leading to it falling apart).

EDIT: Just stumbled onto an article by Bloomberg, that basically say that people will support Putin fighting terrorists in Syria, as they supported him fighting terrorists in Chechnya. There are major differences, that this article seems to ignore. First, Chechnya was a part of Russia, that wanted to get away, and russians hate to see our land go (we are the largest country in the world and were raised to be proud of it even if 2/3 of our land is permafrost). Second is that nobody else was fighting chechen terrorists, so it had to be Putin. ISIS is different in that other countries, such as USA, are fighting ISIS, and we may just focus on our own internal matters and see USA, who in the eyes of many russians are responsible for creating this mess in the first place, sorting it out.

You mean the chances on a plane that had a repair done on its tail section in response to a tailstrike many years before? As mentioned in the earlier posts, it's happened before.

On a new plane I'd agree with your assessment but with this particular plane it's history leaves other viable options open. It's not called explosive decompression because the air slowly leaks out.

Time will tell though.

No it could not. An uncontained engine failure could wreck havoc with the wing it is on and perhaps parts of the fuselage adjacent to it.

Meanwhile Russian officialls suggested to Putin to stop and cancel all the flights to Egypt and he allegedly agreed to. Media are now reporting, that all the russian flights to Egypt are to be cancelled until the reason of the crash will become clear. Nothing official yet though.

Frankly that war is coming whether we like it or not. At some point, I have no doubt that in the coming days we're going to see even more Russian troop movements into Syria.

Thats because its November and its cold in Russia. Those arent troops they're just Russians on vacation in tropical, warm Syria!

The fact that they're armed to the teeth and rolling through the borders on troop carriers is sheer coincidence which should not be too closely examined or dwelt upon.

Now, tea?

Yes I know its just vodka in a teacup but you gotta run with it.

Russia is looking to fight a war with anyone who is willing at this point. Better it is ISIS than the countries next door to them.

Russia goes in and obliterates Isis. And just by coincidence Russian allies Syria and Iran expand their borders, Iraq essentially ceases to exist, and Russia gets more oil. Seems a pretty good win-win for Russia.

Look at this picture, the tailstrike your talking about was 15 years ago and it's a scrape roughly under the rear door, in the picture you can see just how far forward this was blown away. you can even see some of the aluminum peeled outward.

Nobody will ever convince me that tail fell off because of a repaired scrape along the runway, if you believe it you better stop flying on the stretched airbus aircraft because lots have nicked the runway over the years.

Spoiler!

That'd be a bold move. Entering Iraq would bring them into a direct confrontation with US forces.

I also think ISIS will be much tougher for Russia to subdue. So far Russia is seeing moderate success against the non-ISIS groups. These are groups that largely care about the welfare of both themselves and the people living in the areas they control. ISIS is a whole other beast.

Russia has yet to make any dent in ISIS and there are reports that ISIS is actually gaining ground as the Russian air force eliminates their more moderate rivals.
