If he produced at the same clip AND was stellar in his own end, then he would be a Norris trophy defenseman.
I'm fine with his defensive shortcomings if he produced offensively. Just like I'm fine with Engelland having zero offense as long as he limits his mistakes defensively and wins the majority of his fights.
I'm Honestly more upset with Giordano this year than Wideman. Wideman is what he is, Gio is not anything like what he was last year or what he's going to be paid to be starting next year. It's a scary thought if he's play continues like this.

Sure, but get upset only if he continues to play "like this". He is, after all, coming back from major surgery.

I think what's important is that we witnessed that game vs Detroit from Gio. That shows us that his ability to take over a game from the back end is still there. I'd be more worried if those flashes were absent. But they have been there, and so we know, and I'm sure he knows, that he can be better and has the ability to improve.

Wideman was horrendous last year defensively too but he was so good offensively that most people ignored it.

Wideman made a great defensive play against (All Hail) McDavid. After being beat wide he reached around and pushed the puck of his stick and into the boards. Not sure if I could find a clip, and I know it's just one play, but I think you're going a little far with that assessment.

Just watched the game. HAHAHHAHA wow the ending was so Oilers. After being plagued by goals like that against us this season, boy does it feel good to have to happen to someone else.
Nice to see Frolik with the Hat trick. Brodie was a beast all night.

I didn't have a halloween costume so I went and grabbed my flames jersey, had the girl give me a black eye and put on some sweats and went out last night. I haven't wore that jersey since the series clinching game against the nucks last year so I will take credit for this win.

The play that will stand out most to me was Bennett backchecking on Mcdavid only to tie up his stick and prevent a easy goal in the third.
After the whole Mcdavid and Bennet being friends segment, I paid extra attention to them when they were on the ice and Mcdavid got the best of Bennett in the O zone and it would have been easy to waste a second or 2 in frustration. Instead, Bennett got on his horse and started chasing McDavid down. Sure enough, the pass came over and Bennett was right there, hard on the stick and stopped the tap in.
This guy has some serious potential. His talents (although very different) are much like Johny in the ability to take over a game.
Is it time to put Monohan in the press box for a game? There are players more deserving of the box however none playing so far off from what is expected.

Monahan has really struggled defensively this year, and he's not producing enough offense to make up for it. I wouldn't bench him, but I would reduce his responsibilities a la Hamilton until he picks it up again. Problem is, we're currently doing the same thing with Backlund, so you can't do it with two centers. I honestly would scratch Backlund for a night, let Grant play the 4th line center spot, and drop Monahan to the 3rd line with guys like Jooris and Colborne on his wings to help out defensively.

Mostly agree with your post but Jooris to help defensively? He's one of the worst players on the team when it comes to being in the right position. He's all heart and hustle but doesn't always go to the right areas without the puck.

Happy they got the win, but, they still played pretty sloppy at times. I wish they would stop rimming the puck every chance they get in our zone and for the love of god, try attacking with speed on the pp.

Reading the Oilers PGT and lots of their fans are mad about the goal that was called back. Too bad, that's the rule. That rule went against the Flames too. If that goal counts then so does the one Calgary scored too. It's nothing but excuses with them. According to them the NHL and the refs are out to get them and that they should be tied for a playoff spot. Some truly delusional people.

The goal we scored was legitimately called back, their goal was close, we'd be doing exactly the same thing if it had gone the other way.

Not too worried about Monahan. He needs to get used to being the #1 target. Teams are going to focus on him a ton this season. This is why I think it's the right decision to put Gaudreau with Bennett and Monahan with Hudler and addig the big board controlling of Colborne to the mix. Now all Monahan has to do is man up a bit and he'll be right back to where he was last year.
People may call it regression for him this season but I'll call it facing much stiffer competition. Needs to battle through it.
Good regulation win, the team needed it a lot. Still let in 4 goals though, which is still a very troublesome aspect of the game that needs ironing out. Both in net and the D zone coverage.
Man, if Sam Bennett keeps this upwards trajectory up, there's superstar stuff there. Love the determination, the speed and the skill when he's firing on all cylinders. just exciting stuff to watch. Pairing him up with Gaudreau only means certain Doom for years for the opposition. That just needs time to marinate.

I was going to respond to calgaryblood, but Komskies nailed the response better than I could ever articulate with that article.
I stand by what I said about Jooris, he's a winger that takes care of the defensive zone well.

Nope, not buying that excuse. He did this last year, facing the other team's top players, and was excellent defensively. That was the season he had to step up and battle through it, and he did it, while adding 30 goals. No idea what's been bothering him this year, but he's just not executing well at all.
The whole team hasn't really been that bad, but our key players (goalie, top defensemen, top 2 centers) have been our worst players, especially for what they normally bring. My signature is quite prescient on this matter.
