Considering the start the Flames had thus far, that would be something huge that they could plaster in the dressing room. To hell with all the problems thus far, they'd be within striking distance of putting themselves back on track.

This is the only silver lining as far as I'm concerned (this and Gaudreau's play). It definitely isn't over, but it feels like it is. Reason for that is the team isn't showing any signs of figuring this out. It's been a long stretch, a very long stretch, of being the absolute worst team in the league. It's hard to imagine them being better enough to actually compete for a playoff spot, especially with the hole they've dug themselves.

Two consecutive games of hot goaltending would turn this team's spirits around. Three consecutive games of hot goaltending and this team can finish the season with 100 points.

Maybe, but who's gonna do that? I'd be happy with mediocre goaltending right now, and I doubt any of our goaltenders could provide more than that at the moment.

That's quite the leap you just made there. I don't see it nearly that optimistically.

Could be Ramo... as long as he's not facing shots from terrible angles or the slot...

I have a amazing feeling that Ramo is going to play lights out.
What more motivation does one need? Playing a full time role in the NHL, get put on waivers, go to Stockton (terrible/sketch place) and then have all the stars align to get a call up this quickly.
With a few great games, Hiller is being put on waivers when he returns.
I also feel that the flames have played great the last 2 games. It has been some poor goals against that deflates the team. Get some big early saves from Ramo tonight and the team will believe - tonight is the night everyone buys in to playing a full 60, regains their confidence and gets the fans back behind the team.

We get Randorf and Craig Simpson. Hurray for no Romanuk.

It is so hard to take going from round two of the playoffs to the outhouse in a few short months. We have no hope in a Ramo vs. McJesus showdown. We should just tank and aim for a Matthews gold ticket.

I've been in Edmonton for about 20 hours and I have not seen one remotely attractive person. That's highly unusual. Often if you're out in public for a long period of time you're bound to see at least one person who doesn't look like a ghoul.
Edmonton... Where you can't tell if it's Halloween, or just Edmonton.

I could see Ramo going on a tear. Why should he be feeling any pressure: he's already been demoted. He's got nothing to lose. If he plays well, he can be 'the Man'. If not, so what. I think the Flames are going to kick butt tonight.

Haven't heard for sure, but I imagine it's Romanuk and Johnson. Outside chance it's Randorf and Galley.
EDIT: There you go. Surprised it's Simpson with Randorf, though.

Celebrated Square Root Day

I'm oddly optimistic about tonight. I think the biggest factor is Ramo knowing Hiller's injury is likely his last shot at being an NHL goalie. I know he's been bad this year, but Brent Krahn was on the fan last week and was talking about how the three goalie system is an unmitigated disaster as goalies just can't get in a groove be it in games or practice.
Goalies are very routine driven, and the three goalie system just completely ####s up any sense of routine. He said practice is actually the worst part, even more so than sitting in the press box for some games, as goalies get a lot of their flow from being in the net in practice and this system takes that away as they share nets and/or sit out.
I'm not saying our goalies aren't majorly to blame, but it sounds like running with three goalies into the season is a horrible way to find out who your best two are, as it ends up screwing with all three.
So now that we have a standard two goalie system combined with Ramo historically playing his best hockey when under pressure for a spot, I bet you he has a really good game tonight.

Figured I'd something more than the flood of "The game's on tonight, but I ain't even watching" announcements that don't serve any purpose.

They mixed everyone up today, probably out of boredom
Leafs - Hughson with Johnson
Sens - Romanuk with Galley
Jets - Broadhead with Millen
Flames - Randorf with Simpson
