Do not play Gilles with this team in front of him. No need to ruin the kids confidence for no reason.

Jon Gillies isn't the saviour people think he is. He's already had two miserable games at the AHL level and you want to take him out of the frying pan and into the fire?

What's Joey MacDonald up to?
He'd be an upgrade on whatever this is.

Ortio was given the opportunity to make a statement tonite and failed to rise to the occasion. As frustrating as the Flames net minding has been this year I agree with CSW that there is no point in rushing Gilles. We are for the present stuck with the net minders we have. Will be curious to see how Ramo responds tomorrow night after the experience of being put on waivers and not claimed.

Gillies has 2 shutouts already this season and is 2-2 with a 2.36 GAA and .916 save pct. So he's been hot or cold no in between. Bring him up for 1 game.

Sorry, but that solves nothing. If he's inconsistent at the AHL level, he's not ready for the NHL

The difference being that he has actually played excellently in half his games which is more than can be said for any of our goalies in the NHL this season.

So you throw him to the wolves? Again, I fail to see a smart move here. It seems more like you want to scratch your lottery ticket and hope for a winner

Bringing up Gillies is the last thing we should do. You don't want to scare the poor kid into early retirement.

There are your save percentages and not even one is at a pathetic .880
For those who think it is rushing Jon Gillies, I think I would prefer him to Cam Ward. You can always send Gillies back to the AHL if he doesn't perform.

Different era. They use to smoke and drink at the bench . Its amazing they even made it through a 30 second shift.

Hartley didn't want to play Ortio, for fear of ruining his confidence, but yeah..... call up Gillies......

Can't be any worse than what we have now, but I agree that we should just keep him in the AHL. I think this kid is the real deal. People can harp on his inconsistencies in pro hockey but don't forget how young he is and that it's only four games into his pro career. Do not rush this kid. Let him develop. He will be this teams #1 goalie in due time.

I'm of the opinion you run with Ramo from now on and use Ortio in back-to-backs.
Sure, bad goals have been an issue from every goalie thus far, but the defensive breakdowns are the biggest problems. Putting Gillies in the net would probably just hurt his development. Ortio shouldn't be playing right now with how the team is performing either. With Ramo/Hiller, you don't really care if they get shell-shocked. You should care if Ortio or Gillies do.
Flames don't need a savior in net. They need to eliminate the constant turnovers, especially the ones that happen in high-percentage scoring areas, or the ones that are creating the odd-man rushes.

I actually had to sit and think a moment to remember Gillies is only 21. Then I thought about when Ortio was 21 and the Flames sent him out and he floundered he ended going back to Finland.
This would be the terrible for Gillies right now.

10 days ago the Flames were only an Ortio start from turning this around. Didn't take very long for us to turn on him.
