Great goaltending makes a huge difference. Oilers look from horribad to bad with decent goaltending

When that happens, as a goaltender all you can do is guess base on circumstance. The shot was in a bit closer, so he got low and spread out in a standard pose. The puck didn't hit him.
If he couldn't see it that was crap positioning by him.

For the love of God, All I want is a timely save. Not too much to ask I think.

At this point it's not about breaking down individual shots and goals. No matter who has been in net they haven't been able to provide key saves at key moments. None of them... And it's killing us.

Except Wideman and Russell. They aren't winning.
Do they have one shot attempt at even strength between them?

Jooris is double meh!

LOL Ortio has been terrible. He let in two goals against Weise that an average NHL goaltender should stop. The power play goal he left the entire right side of the net vacant but I won't call it bad because it appeared he was screened. The last goal was more on Russell than him. Bottom line is that he's been no different than the other two guys in that instead of making any important saves he's letting in some soft goals. Just not good enough and now we are seeing why Hartley lacked confidence in him.

I'm kinda suprised given how brutal the defense has been this season that one of our goaltenders hasn't completly snapped and gone postal on the defense yet.

We aren't playing great in the second (again) but still the most frustrating thing to me was gaudreau getting a holding the stick penalty for pulling his own stick out of the defenseman's arm. Wasn't even on the same side of the guy as his stick.

Or perhaps the rest of the league has no idea who he is? I would wager that has more to do with him falling to the Habs. They were on a winning streak, so of course it was hard for him to break into the lineup. Just wait and see if they bench him again. I bet they won't.

He actually was good enough to make the Flames, they just thought he would slip through waivers. Anyone that thinks Mason Raymond or Brandon Bollig did more to earn a spot on the team are as delusional as Bob Hartley.

But fine, give up a guy that was gonna pot 30 points playing on the 4th line. A guy that goes out and brings so much energy that it shifts momentum to his team. Not to mention his role as a good PKer.

We sure made the right decision.

It was a huge mistake hanging on to both Wideman and Russell. Running around your own zone trying to block everything simply isn't an effective way of defending in the NHL. Being one of the teams with the most blocked shots is indicative of major issues.

He's performed better than the other two but is that really saying much at this point? This is his 2nd softie in 2 starts on a team that desperately needs a whole lot less of those. So...

They'd get it back twice as bad. The defense has had lapses without a doubt, but more troublesome to me is the lack of any ability to make saves. Last in the NHL in 5v5 save % and you're going to pin that on the D?
