It depends what you're doing as well. I enjoy crazy microbrews one or two at a time, but if I'm out on the town no way am I drinking a lot of them. Hot summer days call for a lighter beer, cold days are Guinness.

It's hard to suggest beer not knowing your tastes, but maybe have a go at a grapefruit type beer, or something like a Kingfisher lager? Red Racer has been mentioned already; they're cheap and really good for heavy drinking......

Sorry, just to clarify- i meant suggestions on pumpkin spiced beer. As per my post above, I was at a Co op liquor store tonight and the choices were pretty limited.

As far as beer preferences- Like just about everyone else right now, I am into all different types of Pale Ales- APAs, ISAs, IPAs, the occaisonal Double IPA and definitey ESBs. Other than pale ales, I like belgian tripels. Probably overdid it on wheat ales over the summer, but still try out a few new ones here and there. Not a huge fan of stouts or red/brown/amber ales. Not a big lager drinker, but definitely enjoy the occasional european or asian lager/pilsner

Apple flavoured beer is really disgusting I like bud light lime and shocktop belgian white but budlight apple is disgusting and shocktop apple is not as bad but still terrible.

So much so, I'm going to have a go at making a clone. I'm fairly certain it's powdered peanut butter in the wort, and canned strawberries in the secondary, but I have no clue as to how much of either.

A peanut butter and jam flavoured Irish stout sounds ridiculously amazing.

That's a really weird combo. I'd hate to guess at brewing something like that and have it come out tasting like hot ass.

You guys should try your hand at brewing your own! It's super easy.

I currently have a pumpkin Irish Stout kegged (tasty but low ABV), a Vienna Lager in its secondary, and a primary I just pitched a few days ago that I think will be a Sierra Nevada IPA clone. I was thinking about dry hopping that one, but I might leave it alone and see how it turns out.

That's almost 75 litres of beer on the go. My wife likes baking cupcakes, I like making beer. It's a bad combo for a 40 year old.

The Alley Kat Pumpkin beer isn't a bad tasting beer, with a slight pumpkin aftertaste. I was expecting something a little more pumpkin forward, considering the seasonal nature of it. Generally speaking, Phillips does everything really well, so I might have to go out and look for that one for comparison sake.

I'm a layman in terms of beer, so I can't really speak to "notes of pear curd, with lingering elements of goat hoof", and the like. I've educated my palate from 'good or bad' to a 1 to 5 scale. I realize and respect that some people are on a 1 to 100 scale, but I'd give Alley Kat Pumpkin a 3. Right in the middle. It was a little forgettable, so I wouldn't go out of my way, except being near Halloween gives it an extra bump to recommending giving it a try.

Currently trying the phillips crooked tooth pumpkin spiced and it is deifinitely better than the alley kat, albeit a much more subtle taste of pumpkin. They also had a much stronger one at around 9%, but I didnt pick it up. Should have. Will give the alley kat another try on Thanksgiving.

If anyone is picking up a beer advent calendar this year, Costco (Beacon Hills for sure, perhaps others) has them for $90. They were ~$150 at Crowfoot for the same one.

Figured since I now have mine, it was safe to post in here.

First year not working away from home for half the month in about 5 years, so I'll finally be able to make use of one of these!

Be very wary of any appliance that requires you to only use their form factor ingredient packs to make the final product. If there isn't a way to use your own ingredients like a "fill your own K cup" strainer then if the company folds you're stuck with a super expensive paperweight.

True, but I guess that's the risk of being an early adopter of something like this.

Not sure if I would buy it, but it's a pretty neat concept. It opens up the market for craft beers that would never be available to you otherwise.
