Flames need Backlund and Colborne and Bennett to play like a second line.

I think we all know how you feel about Frolik. No use discussing him with you.

As for your "2nd line" ...... I think its time for flames fans to accept that Backlund is never going to be a 2nd line scoring player. He is a very good defence minded 3rd line center. If you need to play him 2nd line center because of injury he is your man. He is not a 82 game 2nd line scoring center.

Bennett is going to be good, but he is not a 2nd line player yet. He might not even get there by the ned of the year.

I like Colborne, but he is not a 2nd line player. He is a good 3rd line player. Remeber when flames traded for him and management thought he could be an effective bottom 6 player. I forgot the name of the guy they used as comparison, but he was not an 82 game 2nd line scorer.

Wonder what the plans are like for Hudler. No whispers of any extension talk from what I've heard. I think they know they will move on from him, and he will be dealt this season.
In regards to Hudler, I'm beginning to honestly hope they move on. Guy seems unengaged this year and a complete passenger

I'm hoping both get moved for picks and prospects

Tough gig for a young player.
He is, and it's absolutely ridiculous. Did people expect him to come here and win a Norris trophy this year or something? My God. The negativity surrounding him right now is disgusting. He hasn't even played 10 games and people want to trade him? I'm all for sitting him for a game to help him learn, it worked for Johnny and Wideman last year, but the fact that people want to trade him is a joke. It's Jay Bouwmeester all over again. He was an Olympic-caliber defense man and that guy got treated like garbage here because people didn't like his contract.

I for one am still super excited we have Dougie on our team and have full faith this move will work out in the long run. Sure he's struggling right now, but everyone not named Gaudreau is struggling. It's unfair to single him out like this when he isn't the only person underperforming.

Well said. This team just needs some things to start going right for them. What a difference a two goal lead could do for this club. They've played well for long stretches in games and not been rewarded with a decent lead. Instead, every mistake seems to cost them. Don't want to blame any individual player any more... Just pulling for the boys to get some luck on their side as a group so they can get started turning things around.

I was thinking the same thing while writing it. LOL

Phil Esposito trade mania is OK if Flames get the pieces they need.

at 22, Giordano played for Omaha-Ak-Sar-Ben and got called up for 7 games.

At 22, Brodie was a really promising young defenseman who could rush the puck and get himself out of trouble, but was prone to egregious giveaways.

Hamilton has played terribly so far this season. But he will be better. When people talk about giving him easier minutes, and giving him time to adjust (while complaining about his bad play) that's all fine.

But talking about trading him, and calling him the next Bouwmeester, and calling the trade a failure and re-evaluating every action from Treliving as a result... these are the things that cause players to want to play in the states.

at 22 Gio played 48 games 2006-07 He was on a the last year of his 2-way contact with guaranteed earnings of $60,000. He went to the KHL as a 23 year old

at 22 Brodie was in the last year of his elc.... he was guaranteed to make $65,000

At 22 Hamilton is guaranteed 34.5M even if he plays like a boot

you see the difference..... If Brodie or Gio were playing as bad as Hamilton as a 22 year old they would have been in danger of being sent to the AHL.

They both had stretches of 10 games like Hamilton has had in those years. Leave Hamilton alone Ricardo. At least give him more time.

Some people rate players based on salary.

Some focus on other things.

Then pretend in your mind that he's a 22 year old who is making league minimum if it makes you feel better. He may be guaranteed his 34.5M, but he's also guaranteed to perform 6 YEARS of service. We are 10 games into those 6 years. 10/492 regular season games. 1% if you include getting at least 10 playoff games out of him during that span.

Yeah, let's turn on someone who is less then 1% into the life of their contract.

K so you know that Hamilton has been in the league for 3 years already, right?

I'm starting to wonder if the flames try to trade for a goalie? Ortio is going to have his chance, but i have a feeling he will be on a short leash. I'm not saying trade Russell for a goalie, but maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick . It did wonders for Minny last year.

Not a lot I agree with him but he has a point. With 5+mill dollar salary come bigger expectations.

Gio was an undrafted player, Brodie 4th round pick, Hamilton 9th overall. His development is supposed to better and faster by age 22.

Hamilton will get better so I'm not worried but I certainly expected a much better player then he has shown so far.

Is this the Kris Russel thread or the Dougie Hamilton thread?

Either way i say it still comes down to if Russell wont take a huge hometown discount and he could net a decent forward..... what are we waiting for. Hes been a great soldier but Nakladal Is chompin at the bit to get in and we still need more high end young depth up front. Win/win.

Being a young defenceman in the NHL is very, very difficult. Adapting to a new system is challenging too. Give the guy some time FFS.

I have said it before but I will say it again. I can't believe the Flames actually want to give Russell a big raise (that's what it will take to sign him) and retain him long term. This is madness. I feel the Flames have already got the absolute best this player has to offer and while he has some nice qualities, defensive zone coverage has never had and will never be one of them. I would love this guy as a 3rd pairing guy at a $3 million salary but at $4+ million long term I would run far, far away.

Yeah he's not doing himself any favours with this play this season. I'd like to think it's an aberration as he's been pretty solid since day 1 of his arrival.
