No, door to door mail service is a relic of an age gone by. It is an unneeded services that is more fixated in emotion than need at this point. A huge percentage of Canadians are surviving fine without it.

What are to positive arguments for it?

I assume someone will say old/disabled people. But if that is a reason why is it only good enough for 40% of Canadians?

I also think group mail boxes have had a hidden environmental impact. Little things like moving the mailbox 500' further away has encouraged some people to use text/email to communicate, which is a green move.

Unless you are talking about the 1.1% part, yes that should have been green.

I'm not talking about the relative merits (or not) of doorway delivery.

You called him a "slacker" making an emotional decision, as his first decision.

Except he hasn't even been sworn in yet, and the decision to suspend the changeover program was made by Canada Post (and likely the Privy Council). They're acting based on what was in the Liberal (and NDP) platform. Based on what voters chose, and working with taxpayer money. When and if Trudeau does request that the initiative be cancelled, it'll be because he ran on it.

It's fine to disagree with stopping the program, but let's get the facts straight without needless name calling. Or yeah, maybe indicate your sarcasm...

Back to 24 Sussex renos...

Joe Clark's wife says the building is so bad that it should be razed completely:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/24-s...down-1.3292650

Quote:
"That's why an old, crumbling building with asbestos, which we know is poison, really is so lacking of vision, if you will, and [does not reflect] who we are as Canadians."

Asked if she would be sad to see a bulldozer raze the house, McTeer said it might not even require that sort of effort.

"It's coming down on its own, one could argue, just wait long enough," McTeer said, noting that the building was in need of basic repairs even when she lived there more than 30 years ago.

I've been there. The object in the background is referred to as the plunger. We will need to design some sort of toilet related object as well.

For the $10 million price tag, I am starting to wonder why not just build a new residence. Something modern and green. As the article said, PMs have only been living there since the 1950s and it was originally the home of a logging industry tycoon. Should we be placing so much significance on a building?

Agreed. I thought it had more history. If Trudeau only make sit one term though, he may not even get to live in it. I'd imagine the whole process would take more than 4 years...

I can see why past Prime Minsters steered clear of touching the reno project for political reasons. Unfortunately when you neglect outstanding house repairs it just gets worse. I agree with a possible tear down and rebuild.

Except the rebuild will be some glass and concrete modern piece of garbage. 24 Sussex is a crumbling ruin, but it is so elegant.

As someone suggested, they should make it a reality series on HGTV. Get Mike Holmes or Brian Baeulmer on it. I'd totally watch it.

Why don't we treat it like a modern, contemporary first world country would by restoring it without any fanfare or circus atmosphere?

And we'd get to see the Trudeau's marriage crumble before our eyes.

Amazing sound byte from one of our smartest Canadians, speaking out on harper's war against fact, science or reason. He was really something, to not be remembered
