It's probably the fact that when Giordano is "bad", it's in a place like behind the net trying to do what good NHL defensemen do at 5 on 5. Yeah, Gio had some turnovers or got caught being aggressive, but I can live with that. I can't live with Russell and Wideman getting visibly burned every single game.
I like Russell.
I like Wideman.
But they need to get away from each other if this team wants to have any success.

Russell -13 leading the team...he is a nightmare in our own end. Wideman helps him big time too

Good effort tonight it sucks we lost that game. Nice rinse some goals go in the net. Bennett was a beast again out there again. Decent she by Dougie. I wish this how they played all 10 games. This hole sucks but a bit of a roster tweak and decent goaltending this team will strong some wins together

Best game the Flames have played this year IMO. The goaltending continues to be mediocre, the Flames probably walk away with 2 points in regulation if Hiller doesn't let in the 2 quick goals in the 3rd.

Something is clearly wrong with our mix, when all your goalies have sub-.900 save percentages, it says something about the chances you are giving up. We need a shake-up trade.

Flames now need to play at a .647 pace to get back to 97 points which is roughly the pace Tampa Bay played at for all of last season.
Positive: in 2013-14, 91 points was enough to make the playoffs and we only need to play at a .605 pace to get to that level.

I thought Colborne set the tone early in the game with his hits. It looked like he wanted to prove he deserves time with Monahan. He really whiffed on the wide open net though.
Similar can be said about Bennett who has upped his game recently and gained an extra step being on Gaudreau's line.
Beautiful to see Brodie back and doing his thing. A player who is often worth the price of admission all by himself.

Except Joni, who has .911 save percentage. if Hillers injury isn't to serious, I hope they give Joni the chance for Starter if Ramo is called up.

I'm so done with Hartley and his decision making. Doesn't call timeouts ever anymore. You can see the team ready to fold and he does nothing to counter it.
Power play is absolutely abysmal.
Bollig keeps getting into the lineup. I mean Grant was playing some good minutes, but we need Bollig because they have chris Neil?
This was the 2nd best game of the year and it was because of not playing the dumb stretch pass system for 60 minutes.

Flames played at a 0.658 pace last season on either side of the 8 game losing streak and not including "exhibition" game 82...

Russell is the only one with any decent trade value. Bollig has negative value.
Or are you thinking addition by subtraction?

I know +/- isn't a great stat but how can any GM see that and not be looking at acquiring Russell as the very definition of a 'buy low' scenario?
Every stat attached to Russell's name is indicating he's terrible, +/- is just the icing on the cake. Everyone in the hockey world must see this, no?

Need some goaltending to get confidence in the defensive zone. Seems like everyone is trying way to hard to block or impede shots and its leading to blown assignments.

Jooris deserved a kick in his butt too as his turnover caused a goal against. He should be eating popcorn up in the press box next game

And?
You can't just slice games off the schedule so that your data looks more appealing. Those games happened. Maybe we don't heat up down the stretch without the 8 game losing streak? Maybe it was a team-building thing that galvanized the troops and their momentum carried them through? It makes no sense to pick and choose parts of the season to try to prove the team was better than it was, or that the pace has any bearing on this year.
The sad thing is, we probably have a couple more rough patches to go still. Digging a hole like this is just asking for trouble, we're not the 2015 Minnesota Wild.

You'd be the first one complaining if he called a timeout and then the Sens scored a controversial goal we couldn't challenge.

The hockey puck gods almost had the Flames back tonite. Soon the tide will turn, and the Flames will go on a record winning streak. One has to have hope right!

I think his point is maybe the start of the season is this year's "8 game losing streak" and at the end of the year you say "other than the start, the Flames played 700 hockey".
