True, but what I was referring to started in 2012 or so and has nothing to do with CMBs. CP began lengthening routes. Any depot that hasn't had a restructure since will be losing about 25-30% of the routes. CMB conversions will further reduce that number by 40-50%.
The ones in your area are delivered by Rural Routers. They are CP employees and part of CUPW but they don't get similar benefits/wages.

You're right. I am because I find the whole debate so ridiculous and over the top. It's a mail box, why is it a hill they're willing to die on? Are people loitering near a mail box sorting their mail going to suddenly start dealing drugs? Are your neighbours that awful that you never want to see them? I seriously don't get it.

We have had this type of system in our neighbourhood since we moved in back in 2001. There has never been a problem with it. Just have to go for a short walk to the box and back. Big deal.

Unless of course you're talking about the original part of this thread in that Canada Post was moving all mailboxes to these superbox formats in which case you're not missing the point

Interesting. I was under the impression they aren't part of the CUPW.

Wow. I can't believe I didn't know Purolator is 91% owned by Canada Post!

Hey man, there could be some unintended benefits there!
"Hey man, want some drugs?"
"No thank you, just the mail today, can you be here Friday? Thats when my CPP cheque rolls in!"

Moose Jaw just installed the boxes this summer. Honestly, I love it. Whenever I want my mail I go get it, simple as that. I personally believe that the majority of people "should" have no issue going to get their mail from the superbox. I was watching a lady being all frantic about her mail not being delivered to her house anymore....waving her arms all over and getting all upset about it. To me her arms and legs seemed to work perfectly well and the fresh air could do her some good imo.

Update: my inlaws got their new supermailbox yesterday, looks like they're going forward as planned on at least some of them.

I wonder if I could start a business: You pay me money and I will go to the box, get your mail and deliver it to your home mail box. Is this a viable business model?

Depends on what you are modeling.
Is it a bikini, little black dress?
I am sure there is a market.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't exist already. There will have to be some sort of service for shut-ins and I'm guessing there will be a good chunk of people that are willing to pay for it as well.

^ There is free service provided by Canada Post to deliver mail to door for those who require assistance, both short and long term, including only during the winter. I am not sure what the process is to apply and on what basis the 'need' is.
For the other, I am sure some would pay undercoverbro to get the mail for them.

Went to pick up my mail tonight from the new boxes for the first time.
13 pieces of "mail", all flyers and advertisements and no sign of the parcel I was waiting for. Just something about going out of your way just to pick up junk mail that is incredibly annoying.
Canada Post is out of control with delivering this garbage, all went directly into the recycling bin. What a waste.

so put a sticker in the box that says" no junk mail". I've had a sign on my house box for years, rarely get any.
