Ovi's milestone march continues. He'll soon become the highest scoring Russian of all time.
I think Ovi comes to within 100 goals of Gretzky's mark of 894 which in today's NHL is almost unthinkable. Couple that with the two lockouts he sat through and who knows? He may have nipped at Gretz's heels.
Savor this fellas, because after he retires we'll have to sit through McSavior's milestones ugh.

if... if... if
if Iginla gets 30 a year for 10 more years, he'll catch Gretzky!
Call me if it actually happens (which it won't)

What do you think Ovi finishes at? 625?

Iginla scoring 30 goals until he's 48 isn't realistic. Ovechkin playing well throughout his 30s is.
Jagr is still great at age 43. Iginla scored 30+ goals consistently up to age 38, and he's still going. Sakic had a 100 point season at age 38. Selanne was great up to about age 42.
There's definitely a lot of "ifs" involved, but they're at least realistic.

I couldn't give a rat's a$$. But I highly doubt it's anything near 800
More to the point though, you wave the Ovi flag over and over in every thread you can squeeze it into. It gets annoying.

If you don't care then why comment?
Given that its Caps vs Pens tonight on the OOT, that conversation always centers around the Ovi/Sid discussion, so it's perfectly applicable to look back at the decade long rivalry and talk about what comes next.
I think over the next 10 years or less, Sid overtakes Ovi in points and Ovi finishes off with around 800 goals.
Go to another thread if this displeases you.

So because I don't care how many points Ovi will retire with, I don't get to participate in the discussion?
Sorry, I didn't realize this was a(nother) fellate-the-mighty-Ovi thread and the rest of us aren't welcome.

Does it still?
Seems like that argument ended a few years ago to all but Ovechkin fanboys.

You can discuss anything you like if it's on topic of the thread you're in.
I didn't say you had to leave, but clearly the topic at hand upset you. Feel free to join in friend.

Literally the first story on the front page of NHL.com is about the Sid-Ovi rivalry title Clash of the Titans.
In fact, there are three Ovi stories on the front page of NHL.com right now. So yeah...

It didn't upset me at all.
You made a claim about Ovi.
I thought it was silly and challenged you on it.
You then asked what I thought he would retire with and I said I don't care.
You then attacked me for that.
There might be someone upset here, but it isn't me.

I don't normally comment but you either care or you don't Enoch. You clearly "challenged him on it" (caring), and then stated a sentence later that you don't care. So which is it?

Man this fanbase really needs a win. Even the OOT, which is normally pretty benign, is getting nasty and cranky.

So it's not possible to think someone else's prediction is silly without feeling the need to make my own prediction?

Can someone explain to me how San Jose / Nashville is a "rivalry"?

I reckon he would have been good for an extra 40 in the first lockout year (even Crosby, a lesser goal scorer, scored 39 in his rookie campaign), and his pace in the shortened season suggested he would have scored 22 more goals then. So he's probably short about 60 goals of where he would have been barring the lockouts.
That would put him at about 540 goals at the age of 30. Assuming he plays 8 more years averaging 40 goals per year (which I think he can do - he can crack 50 for each of the next 3 at any rate, then tail off down to 30ish by his age 36 season) that would take him to 860 goals.
If he Jagr'd it and squeezed in a couple of 20 goal seasons by 40 then, yup, he had a shot to break Wayne's record.
All to say that, if the stars align in his favour, he could maybe do it. But the lockout years definitely hurt.
Whatever he ends up with, it's been a treat to watch him.
