So we'll probably have the Ring Road finished and the Green Line done before they actually have a real proposal to put forward? Oh Ken King, with so much no good you should be working for the Oilers.

Ken King was at the Calgary Real Estate Forum today and spoke about CalgaryNEXT. Mario Toneguzzi was there and tweeted about King's presentation:
His tweets have been compiled here (not sure if a storify thing can be embedded in CP): https://storify.com/smtorsch/ken-king-on-calgarynext

That sounded like nothing new to me... Sure haven't been hearing much about this project.. Wonder if it is slowly dying?

I doubt it, and assume there is a lot happening behind the curtain. Wait for the discussion to continue once the remediation costs are known. This is how these things work.

Not only did he offer nothing substantially new, he apparently didn't even take questions!
Never change Ken. LOL

$200M (avoided fieldhouse costs) and a CRL for the infrastructure upgrades is my highest offer as a tax paying citizen.

I wonder if the Liberals would be interested in helping fund this project?

I hope it dies faster. Terrible plan as it stands now.

That's very generous of you, Frequitude. Not only is $200mil a lot for one citizen to give up, it also lets the rest of Calgary's taxpayers off the hook on this project.
On behalf of every Calgary resident, thank you. This is tremendous.

McMahon land is university owned, correct? Any idea what their long term vision/desire for that space would be if the stadium disappears as King suggests?
As for the Dome, obviously it could have some value for an Olympic bid. If no such bid is on the table, then what are the possibilities for the Dome?
Rexall status:
Quote:
If Northlands cannot find partners to collaborate with to repurpose the facility, the Northlands Arena Strategy Committee has made the recommendation to demolish and develop the land.
What is clear is that whatever the outcome is, it must be based on a solid financial model and community benefit.”
Some of the proposed scenarios include supporting the development of recreational facilities or an agricultural education centre. Other options include repurposing the facility to support the trade, consumer, conference and convention business in Edmonton.
|
I would think similar scenarios apply here (minus the ag education centre). I think the old arena in Montreal or Toronto is now a retail complex? Are there any other examples of arena repurposing?

Does anyone else get the impression that the Flames are kind of letting this plan slowly die?
KK: "Look at this grand plan we have!!"
- That plan is fataing terrible. This is bad and you should feel bad.
KK: "Okay, based on the general lack of enthusiasm I'm not going to mention this plan ever again in hopes that you forget I was ever even here...."

Could Care Less
|
In all seriousness, with the NDP push for infrastructure spending, it may actually help the case for this project (hopefully a better future iteration of it).
More likely to foot the bill for road re-design and other infra requirements?
Could be way off on that tho

McMahon Stadium "should disappear" says Ken King. Has no intrinsic value.
...couldn't agree more! Can't wait until that dump is a distant memory.
