It's not absolutely as grim as I thought it would be at this point with the record that we have, but we need to reel off at least four wins in a row, or like six-of-eight. I felt that we needed to be 4-6 after 10 games to have a shot at the playoffs and I think we're boned, but I'll give us until game 15 before I decide if I'm climbing aboard the Auston Matthews tankwagon for the season.
If we've got 6 or more wins by game 15, I'll be hoping for a phenomenal run and a gutsy come-from-behind playoff berth.
5 or fewer by game 15 and all you'll hear from me all season is how we should tank.

To be fair the way the Oilers and Yotes are playing it likely won't take as many points to make the playoffs this year.

Time to cheer this board up.
The Flames will beat the Sens and the Canadiens. Rejoice!

On the bright side, the Flames are only 6 points out of a playoff spot with lots of time left and lots of 4 point games before the end of the season.
Even if there were only 30 games left they'd still be in contention for the last spot in the Pacific.

The Flames are trolling us, instead of all the third period comebacks from last year they'll have a late season comeback. I'll continue to believe, as hard as it is to watch right now.

I'm just sad. Like really, really sad. More than that it hurts to watch this team right now. The statement was meant to reflect how much it hurts to be a Flames fan at the moment, not that I was giving up on the team.
Mods, if you are willing to change it back, please do.

Not sure what the actual stats were, but seemed to me like Monahan was absolutely owned on offensive zone faceoffs. I know the stats guys say faceoffs don't matter, but if you never gain control in the O zone, you are far less likely to generate anything - and that line didn't (along with the rest).

Everyone is sad that we've lost seven games. The losses to Vancouver, Edmonton, and Winnipeg hurt because those were games we could/should have won. Yeah, okay. Last year we lost to the Leafs, the Sabres, the Hurricanes, heck we got swept by an injury-plagued Blue Jackets. Sometimes undesirable losses happen. And in fairness Winnipeg is a good team even though we totally should have wiped the floor with them.
But I should remind you that the Blues, Islanders, and Rangers all swept us last season? So before thinking "this year's team is so much worse than last year's team" look at the how many goals the Flames scored on the Blues, Islanders, and Rangers last year:
VS St. Louis (2 goals in 3 Games)
VS NYR (2 goals in 2 Games)
VS NYI (2 goals in 2 games)
Total: 6 goals in 7 games.
So what were we expecting? So far we have 4 goals scored in 3 games against those teams. We're actually scoring more goals.
That leaves Washington. Last season our first game against the Capitals we lost 1-3. This year's Caps team is much improved, but we actually scored one more goal against them than the equivalent game last year.
It sucks that this team hasn't taken a step forward offensively, but they haven't necessarily taken a step back either. We already know Johnny Hockey is a franchise player, and as Bennett, Monahan, and Jankowski develop at the crucial center position, things will change there too. That'll take patience, we don't right now have a #1 Center but unlike the Sutter days we don't need to trade for an Olli Jokinen. We have three very good 19-21 year olds who could potentially be that #1C and they're all still developing. We can't forget Markus Granlund either, whose offensive talent is too good for the AHL right now. When you look at the Red Wings' equivalents to Granlund and their AHL Stats - guys that come to mind are Filppula, Hudler, Tatar, Nyqvist, and Pulkinnen. He's no career tweener, he's still a kid on his ELC who really, should be a top 9 forward on the Flames right now except management is committed to 3rd liners like Raymond/Colborne while having Granlund center scrubs like Bollig when he does draw in.
The defense? It's coming together. The last two games were not games where the Flames or even the Flames goaltenders deserved to give up 4 goals. They've played well in their zone other than Dougie Hamilton, who I expect will be in a 3rd pairing role for a good while as Brodie returns. And a Smid-Dougie or Dougie-Engelland 3rd pairing is a lot better than what we had at this time last year, Smid-Engelland - those pairings not only bled goals against but couldn't even clear the zone.

Haha I was thinking this too, maybe we will just crank it up at the end of the season and rally huge. Then they would be not only trolling us but the whole league!
Tough to watch right now but I'm still really happy to have hockey again after the off-season.

I thought the name change request was very funny and well timed. I also knew it was in jest and a joke. I also think it hilarious it took no time to switch to panthers but now hasn't been switched back. Means the mods are enjoying it too I hope.
A sense of humor is incredible. Being a fan should be fun. Way too many people way too judge mental and serious.

You're correct. He was 4/13 (31%) in the offensive zone. Though he was 5/7 (71%) in the defensive zone and 4/6 (67%) in the neutral zone.
Weird, Tavares owned him in the Isles zone but Monahan owned Tavares in the neutral and Flames zones.

To be clear, you get the accolades if you are willing to take the condemnation.
Birthday mojo is a two way street.

Holy hell will rain down upon you if we lose tomorrow LOL. Have you seen the PGTs lately? Hell hath no fury like CP when the Flames lose and are playing bad.
People will have someone other than Brad, Bob, the skaters or goalies to blame for once.

But also the way the Oilers and Yotes are playing we won't run the table on them so that kind of cancels out the less points needed.
