We have to work on something that at least has us spending more time in the offensive zone. Some nights this season the only way you could be sure there were two sides to a rink was the teams changing ends between periods.

If we're going to spend the bulk of the game in our own end, we're going to concede goals. We also make our goalies look ####tier than they are. They are generally perceived as giving up one crappy goal per game, but the way we are playing means we are giving up countless opportunities for crappy goals and inevitably at least one of these chances finds the net almost every game.

Goaltending is not the worst of our issues - not by a long shot (pun unintended).

The doom and gloom after a loss on here is hilarious. I quite enjoy it myself but I can see why other posters don't bother with the FOI forum when the Flames are losing. Some of you don't have the patience for anything. It's amazing some of you survive this rebuild at all. Lots of talk at the start of the rebuild about how it might take 4-5 years to get this team to be competitive. Year 3 and lots of you jumping ship already 9 games in.

Never change CP. Never change.
Good post but Cali Flames Fan was clearly being humorous in the face of this current sadness.

If the Flames continue to lose, then there is zero excuse to keep any veteran outside of Giordano and Frolik. That is a good thing.

The lack of success will allow for another high pick. If you combine that with the additional selections gained from dealing players, the Flames will be able to address another big problem, which is a lack of upcoming young players to replace the last wave of guys that are about to arrive in the NHL.

It will also allow for more young players to come in and take a job.

Money that is freed up for this offseason will be able to be directed towards getting a quality handful of players to address whatever needs there are.

Ideally, the Flames would be able to build off their success last year, that didn't happen. Now we will see how things change moving forward.
This is a great post. I feel much better about this season already.

That's about as funny as your wife changing her last name after an argument.

Also, can everyone just calm down with calling me out for what was a not-so-serious post? If you look at my posting history, I'm easily one of the most die-hard Flames supporters out there and I almost always focus on the positives.

I'm just sad. Like really, really sad. More than that it hurts to watch this team right now. The statement was meant to reflect how much it hurts to be a Flames fan at the moment, not that I was giving up on the team.

Mods, if you are willing to change it back, please do.

Are people really giving Cali a hard time? The initial joke post and the mods actually making the change is the funniest, most enjoyable thing that has happened in a so far very depressing season.

Not if you're high up in the humour policing squad. Which Yoho clearly is.

Courtesy Wes Gilbertson of the Sun.

The last time the Flames had 4 points through 9 games was 96/97. That was the worst season point wise in team history.

I don't know why you would have a derogatory nickname for a player who is actively trying to help your team win. It's incredibly disrespectful to call him something like that when he's done nothing but give his all to the team.

That's all you can ask for from a player, so unless he has personally insulted you, try and fake some enthusiasm for him.

When I read some of the things that people say about professional athletes, I would never, ever want my son to be one of them.

There, I fixed your post. Now you can put anyone's name in there except Bollig and it'll be just as good!

This isn't to anyone specifically... Ragging on Hamilton is pretty gutless IMO. First off, his salary has nothing to do with anything right now so stop bringing it up. If it makes you feel better, pretend he's getting minimum wage to play the game and that may help with how you view things. Bennett has been average at best but people are giving him a pass because he's young and learning the game but more because he's on an ELC but in the off season a lot of people (myself included) had him in the running for the Calder. I guess since he's on an ELC and not earning much, it doesn't matter. Monahan has been "not the best" but people give him a pass too because his contract isn't bad and he's an original Flames pick. A lot of people were saying that Monahan would get 6-7 mil on his next contract, how would you feel if Monahan was getting 6 mil right now? Would you be as down on him as you are on Hamilton? Hamilton is 22. 22 years old. Sure, he's getting paid a lot right now but that's because of potential, I'm sure the Flames could have got him for a lot less if he was on a shorter term deal but they wanted him longer term and paid more for him. I'm 99% sure that this contract will look better as time goes on. He is still young and learning the game, he's on a new team with new team mates and a new system and everyone else around him has been pretty average-terrible. The team hasn't had quality goaltending at all this year, team defense has been horrawful yet people choose to single out one player and say he's the issue after only 9 games.

This team is still in a rebuild. We all might have got our hopes up after last year but we have to remember that this is still a rebuilding team. I wanted the Flames to do well this year but I think expecting them to is a bit much. The coaching staff is as much to blame as the players. Some players have been terrible and the coaches haven't adapted things to try to improve. Some players have changed the way they're playing from last year, some are trying to be something they're not and everything is going wrong but that's not on one or two players and it's not on the coach. It's on everyone. The entire team from top to bottom starting with the coach and management through the players and into the training staff are all to blame. This team needs to come together and find a way to make things work. It may be too late and they may not make the playoffs but not because of 1 or 2 guys because of the entire team. This is a rebuilding team, it needs time to figure things out and grow.

We all make fun of fans from other teams "drinking the Koolaid" and always thinking their team is good or that "this is their year" but some of you guys are the exact opposite and blame everything on one or two players. Just try to enjoy the game.

Coles notes version.

Cali sarcastically said to change it from Cali Flames fan to Cali Panthers fan, and the mods having a sense of humour decided to do so, which riled up all the fans without a sense of humour.

Yikes, what a start to the season. The Flames are getting really close to the point of no recovery.

Would have to estimate, it will take over 100 points to make the playoffs.

73 games remaining.... they would need something like the following.

48-22-3

My bad as I'm the one who called you out. The sarcasm obviously flew over my head...I respect you as a poster and you made great GDTs. Please don't stop.

We're all hurting now for some real ''Flames hockey''. It's just annoying to see the bandwagoners jumping off the cliff this early in the season, knowing full well they will be the ones pushing their way back on as soon as we win 2 in a row.

As I said in my earlier post, most of us projected the Flames being 4-5 years away from being a true contender when this rebuild began. If you would have told any of us that there will be ups and down during this rebuild but we might even make the post season once during it, not a single person would have turned that proposal down. It wasn't unreasonable to expect the Flames to take a step back this season after the magical one they just had. Low and behold here we are.

Even though we traded 3 draft picks in a deep draft and are close to the cap, that does not mean this is the finished product like some have said. The only people needing to temper their expectations are the fans who proclaim they have a right to have those expectations simply because we made the playoffs last season, Hamilton was traded here and we're close to the cap. I can guarantee Treliving feels crappy about where we are, but he knew full well of the growing pains involved and has a long term plan in action.

Times like this are when fan bases are truly tested for their loyalty, and seeing whether management will keep their word about staying the course in the long run. I don't see any indication of Treliving wavering from that stance, so I'm on board 100% with this team no matter what the results are.
