Flames Bob Hartley and the Coaching Staff Thread

So far this season, this team is in total shambles. The offense is non-existent, the defense in struggling(but Brodie being should help at least a bit), and below par goaltending. There's no possession, those stretch passes don't work anymore etc etc.

Does his system work anymore? do we need a coaching change?
Lets hear your thoughts.

I think we'll see some personnel changes first, then go from there...

What a horrible start

Hartley is coming off the coach of the year. He didn't just forget to coach. The players are responsible.

Coaches like Hartley have very short shelf lives. He's done well for this rebuild, and has been a very necessary and integral part.

I know we went on an 8 game losing streak last season, but 2-7 is a huge hole to dig out of this early in the season.

Sometimes you just need a change.

Bad start but don't need a coaching change. Players have to take most of the blame. That said you can't trade a full team mid season.

The book is out on the Flames surprise last year, the space (or stretch pass) and the activating the d-man is well known, and now that that space is gone, the players look completely lost.

I don't think the players or lazy, or the coaches are incompetent, but the coaches have to find another game plan to generate offense. A "little bit better possession" isn't gonna be enough when the key to last year's success is completely gone.

Can Bob find something else that works? If not, maybe someone else will get a try. Not that Bob is a bad coach or anything, but its a hard step to take and very few coaches/teams can take that jump from pretender to (playoff) contender.

If this keeps up Bob won't last much past Christmas. Flames might be better off waiting for the offseason though as this season is lost

It's really early but it feels like the Flames system isn't working too well and other teams have caught on. I'm not saying fire the coach but most of the time, it's the default "shake things up" move. Sadly, I think if the team continues to struggle after Brodie is back from injury, Hartley's days will be numbered

The system could use tweaking for sure, but the entire team is playing afraid right now. Nobody wants to go to the hard areas of the ice. If you can't control the middle of the ice you will almost always lose.

This is entirely on the players so far.

While I tend to think Jack Adams awards are a bit overrated I do think his season last year likely buys him at least this year. That being said if things aren't working and Treliving thinks that Hartley is a problem keeping him on because he won a trophy last season is a stupid reason.

I have heard Treliving say many times that they loved what they saw last year but that it is still a building process and they need to look to the future so I think that helps with the knee jerk need to win now reaction that may lead to a firing.

This is most definitely a systems issue.

We've been scouted, and have no answer for it. Our breakout is a one trick pony, and the entire league has seen the show at this stage.

Don't think Treliving will boot Hartley any time soon... look at Phoenix and Tippett.

Hartley isn't telling the players not to shoot.

The issue is on the players. That's not to say Hatley isn't to blame. It's his responsibility to make adjustments to make this team perform much better. But more the blame have to be placed on the players on the ice, rather than the men standing behind the bench.

But if things don't improve soon, not much of a reason to keep Hartley around since he isn't being effective anymore.

I'd just as soon get rid of Treliving before getting rid of Hartley. Amazing that Hartley makes it to the second round of the playoffs essentially with Feaster's team (and with zero expectations to make it), and somehow Treliving is the great guy and we have to ditch Bob.

Give your head a shake.

Flames need to go roughly 20 games over .500 to make the playoffs. This has been the worst 8 game stretch of the post Iginla era. The team is getting blown out on a nightly basis and has no pushback. I don't see this thing turning around anytime soon.

Exactly. Not sure why so many people think he is a wizard of GM'ing. Really what has he done for this team.

Sorry guys but IMO this thread is wrong.
You don't go from last year's team to this year's team because of the same coach.
I'd highly suggest separating yourself from some games for a bit it works for my logic.

My only hops is that this has nothing to do with money however, and the contracts signed in the off-season. For a team that lives and dies on "always earned", you had some dollars handed out in the off-season (and Hudler's apparent desires upcoming) which at the moment are not really earned at all.

... the other option for me is chemistry which may mean a shakeup which unfortunately will likely disrupt and set us back from how we finished last season.

.... or the REAL hope is that its simply group confidence and that it magically returns.. magically... somehow?

Point being, I doubt its the coach...

Hamilton was a move for the future, so I don't think it's fair to put him on that list despite his poor play.

The rest though? Yikes. Always thought Feaster was doing a fine job here.
