This is on the players so far. I haven't liked a couple of Hartley's decisions but the system works. We all know this. It's up to the players to get arses in gear. I know it's Hartley's job to help facilitate this but ultimately there's something not sitting right in the locker room.
That's a severe knee jerk reaction if Hartley gets the boot. Doesn't seem to fit Trelivings MO.

Puck over the glass should be a judgement call like every other penalty, then?
edit: I personally love the penalty.

The signs of seeing the team that we saw last year have been few and far between.

Hiring John Tortorella would have been some prime trolling of the fanbase. Columbus got there first.

Hard to say. I have to admit Treliving doesn't look or sound at all happy and I don't know how long he's willing to let this continue. If this keeps up much longer the playoffs will likely be out of reach so firing him wouldn't likely make a difference and IMO you just let the season play out and determine his fate in the offseason. However if Bruce Boudreaux is suddenly available you never know.

But it is a necessary call.
Before the rule was implemented it was commonplace for the team on their heels in their own zone to intentionally chip the puck into the crowd for a whistle. Sometimes it happened over...and over...and over again. It is a crappy rule, but the alternative was MUCH worse.

Halak always channels his inner George Vezina against the Flames. Then when he plays the Oilers he looks like "red light Racicot". Pisses me off!!

I agree, but why not make it a judgement call as thymebalm suggested.

A judgement call would then require referees to draw conclusions about intent, no? I can't see how that would possibly work: How does one determine when a player intentionally causes a delay versus an accidental one? Accidental trips are still trips, and accidental high sticks are still high sticks.

It's a mental issue with this team, I'm not sure firing Hartley is the way to fix that.

Hartley should do what he did last year and start benching underachievers

This is stupid.
Any coach who's worth anything is demanding. That's how they get their team to be better than the other team.
Babcock
Quenneville
Trotz
Sutter
Hitchcock
I could go on.
What you don't want is a coach who is irrational and demanding.
Keenan
Tortorella
etc.
If the coach demands a certain level of excellence and execution, it's up to the players to find a way to give it, so long as it isn't unreasonable. If those players can't deliver, they're just not good enough.

Firing Hartley if this continues might happen. Problem is all the coaches available aren't that great.

Okay, I've watched every game this season on Game Centre except the game in Vancouver, so I'll switch it up and leave my place for the third and not watch at all.

Refs already have intent to injure as a penalty/ruling for a penalty. It works.

Ortio is making Bob look like an idiot so far tonight, for sticking with the other two idiots for so long.
