He signed the contract on the day before the lockout began IIRC.
Almost all agents would advise their clients to have a contract for the lockout if they can.

I think he'd hurt his value and wave goodbye to a few million dollars doing that.

#### Kane. He's a giant idiot. He even plays the race card? This town loves Buff. Act like an adult and you'll be treated as such.
Also, way to ask for a trade then sign a 6 year extension? If he really wanted out he could have signed a bridge deal. Enjoy Buffalo you turd.

Would suck to request a trade from Winnipeg only to be sent to Buffalo.

Yup, September 15, 2012. So, that would have been the best deal on the table prior to the lockout.

I actually took the "they don't look like me" as a reference to the difference between how a guy like Iginla looks and how a guy like Kane looks in the media.
To me it wasn't about his race but the fact that Kane is a young player that loves to party and isn't afraid to share this publicly via social media whereas a guy like Iginla is a little more "old school" where even if he too loves to party, you wouldn't know this because he's a lot more private.

Really? That's a strange way to say that. He was talking about race.

Yeah that's how I interpreted it. He didn't mention anything about race though.
I think the new cohort of young players these days are going to be more willing to share on social media which will make it seem like the new players are "worse" during their off seasons than players from years past, when really, it's the same. There's just more avenues to see everything these days.

I'm actually a bit surprised on here that people so vehemently deny that there's a race issue. It's pretty prevalent in most pro sports. It's something that nobody likes to talk about but to turn a blind eye or deny it exists is wrong. I don't like Evander, because he comes across as an ass, but IMO, it's likely exaggerated because of his skin colour as people relate his persona to a rapper. Guys like Ovechkin or Bissonette were pretty similar but didn't get as much slack despite having that non-conformist personality despite being hockey players. Iginla was pretty clean cut so to put him in that box wouldn't add up. As a black man in the hockey world he gets more hate because he plays the heel. Don't get me wrong, even if he was white he'd still be disliked, but I don't think it would be nearly as much.

Agree with this; race may be a magnifying glass, but I don't think it's an initial cause of scrutiny.
I can't recall any stink associated with guys like Darnell Nurse or Seth Jones. Josh Ho-Sang may have a harder time changing his image than if he was a white player. I think people are willing to give Nazem Kadri less slack due to his skin colour too.
It's unfair, but if these guys never screwed up in the first place I don't think their race would be much of an issue at all (aside from occasional dumbass fans who throw bananas, etc.)

Again though, to your point, Nurse and Jones are clean cut. Ho-Sang and Kane probably have a chip on their shoulders from sometimes overcompensating. Maybe it drives them by having that chip on their shoulder. I see both sides of the coin though. There are guys who conform to the culture and guys who try to carve out their own personality. As long as their personality isn't extreme to the point where they're asses, I don't think most have a problem. But hockey culture has always been weird in bringing out a personality. Even baseball is the same. But alas, these guys haven't committed any crime (not that that's the baseline), but a guy like Patrick Kane and Ryan O'Reilly deserve so much more hate for the things they've done, but don't. It is what it is, but it is often the pink elephant in the room that nobody wants to discuss.

They don't?
Didn't two fan bases just chant rape related chants at Kane? How long was that thread on here about him?
Have people ever suggested that Kane not be allowed to play like they were with Kane despite Kane being charged with nothing at all?
Seems like Kane for sure got a lot of hate.

If he thinks that's really the reason he received so much flak he's a bigger dufus than I already thought.

Wrong country to play the race card in. It might have worked in Atlanta but that #### don't fly in Winnipeg.
The Irony is he made that comment about a team in Canada yet got shipped to a team in the States where he is likely to be treated different. Not saying the Sabers in particular but in a country as a whole. He must not know his history very well. Wonder if he has ever heard of Harriet Tubman or the underground railroad. I forget where was the final destination and which country was that in?
