I feel like part of the offensive woes is that the defense can't get pucks through to the net as consistently. The defensemen seem to be trying to pick corners too much rather than getting it to the net for a rebound

Flames need a goalie, and some secondary scoring. Otherwise we'll be in the Auston Matthews sweepstakes.

Treliving needs to make a move here or the season could be lost. This team needs a top 6 forward and Brodie back ASAP.

Just give Ortio the reigns, let him sink or swim. Hiller is just as worthless as Ramo, I'm getting sick of seeing him. It's getting to the point where if he's starting, I'm just going to tune out. Can't win with a shooter tutor in net, wtf is the point in watching?

31 goals against in 8 games. As weak as the secondary scoring has been, the goaltending and team defence has been atrocious. So dissapointed by Hamlton. Sweeney is looking like the genius right now.

Auston Matthews would be nice for secondary scoring.

Thought they were the much better team for 2 periods. Unfortunately when you start 2-5 it doesn't leave much room for moral victories.
Grant played well. He probably stays in the lineup tomorrow with that effort.

I thought the team outplayed the Rangers through 40 minutes, then they decided to give up and handed the Rangers the game in the 3rd.

Sometimes you need a save. We can't seem to get one.
I think Dougie Hamilton will look great at some point. He doesn't right now.

Nakladal looked great on the Stockton power play. It's time for him to draw in. A power play goal per game could make all the difference.

There was lots I liked in that game (other than the final score). I thought the work was good, liked what I saw from Bennett, and mostly from the team in general on some pretty lousy ice.
Too much individual play though -- and WAY too many wide shots. Put some of those into traffic, or on net, and maybe a couple more goals come their way.

I see a lot of negativity to Hiller, but it wasn't only him that cost them the game. Some weak defending at inopportune times and bingo - puck's in their net. Ortio isn't the "saviour" either -- he still needs a team in front of him. Flames looked decent but didn't keep their heads in the game quite as much in the third as they did in the first two periods. Some mental mistakes, some poor judgement and a bit of lousy luck.

Sad, but they'll learn from it.

Perhaps the Flames just need to steal a couple of wins on the back of near perfect goaltending to find their mojo.
Ortio's starts will be huge to see what the Flames need to do.

Definitely were the better team for the majority of that game. All 4 lines looked really good tonight until the 3rd. Glad Ortio gets his chance tomorrow.

It's a good think LA is just playing "ok" and that Anaheim is sucking, because if not, this 5 game trip might have been the dagger in the season the way we're playing. There were some positives though, but they better decide soon if they want this season to be a season of finding positives or another playoff season.

Hamilton had zero compete level tonight, especially in his own zone. Lift a stick or two. Move a body from screening the goalie. Just awful effort from him. You have to sit him since reducing his minutes hasn't done much.
Hiller was ok for most of the game, but really poor in the 3rd period. Just about every scoring chance for the Rangers after the 1st period went in the net. Not nearly good enough. Nice to see Ortio get the net for some minutes so he's less nervous tomorrow night. Let's hope we get some above average goaltending for once.

Also, people have been saying that the top line has been good, but I've been pretty underwhelmed by Monahan so far. Not generating consistent offense and he's been kind of poor in his own zone so far this year. We really need him to step up, especially defensively.

Bennett was as little sloppy defensively, but he gets a pass because of how hard he was driving the offense after the 1st period. He still needs to work on things, but he's really on the verge of breaking out in a big way.

I really liked the game from just about everyone else tonight. They pushed the play and controlled things for most of the game. It's unfortunate that a few players are dragging the team down so badly.

BTW, very impressed with the game of Derek Grant. Much more cerebral than I thought he would be. He gets to stay in the lineup for the time being.

We need to win our next two games or we're not making the playoffs. That's what a bad start does to a team. You can't make the playoffs in the first 10 games, but you sure can miss them.
It's still possible to get to 4-6 by that 10-game marker, but if we're 3-7 or worse, we're in serious, serious trouble.

edit: we're at the 8 game mark, not 7, had to change my post.

This is exactly what Edmonton did with all prospects, including goalies, for years with predictable results.
