Well I know Maher is well respected and all but he had to be one of the worst PBP guys I ever heard.
booooring!
also, what a terrible title "Flames Insider" .. more like "Flames media speak guy". He never shared a single bit of "inside" info, just news that was either already reported or filtered by the club.
the guy would have plenty of inside information to share but never did.
wish him well with his part time job but glad he is off the Flames broadcast.
Last time I saw a shocking statement(s) like this was when someone said bearcat murry was a bad trainer.
I hope he wasnt voluntold to retire. They replaced him with a Guy Smiley sound-alike who probably had never been west of Peoria until last year.
Wills is getting better at the pre and post games segments however. Actually has some intelligent things to say now.
I cant imagine that being the case.
Logically speaking it wouldnt make any sense and who would benefit? I honestly think he just didnt want to go on the road with the team all the team anymore. Its a gruelling lifestyle.

I won't say much but I know Peter retired 2 years earlier then he really wanted too.

I had never heard the rumour that he had been asked nicely to move on. I had heard him say though that the travel was starting to get to him at his age.
I can't imagine the Flames asking him to leave, as he just entered the Hall of Fame what, two years before? They coulda really marketed that, not sure why they'd want him to leave.
Many people take a smaller job after they leave they main one. As has been mentioned, a smaller job where he doesn't have to travel so much, might be what he wanted right now.
All that said, it isn't impossible. It would surprise me, but it isn't impossible.
As for Derek Wills, I think he's pretty good. He has big shoes to fill. I loved his coining of 'The Find A Way Flames' last year. He's no Peter, he definitely can get better, and I find he's a bit too much of a homer sometimes, not as objective as he needs to be, (though Peter was a bit of a homer too, maybe not as bad) but I think he's a good replacement.

NHL teams don't pay announcers, Rodgers was responsible for Pete's contract and without knowing to true numbers one can guess HOF'er Peter's salary at least 3x of rookie Derek Willis.
As for Derek, he's ok but some things he does irritates me, like when he's asked a question he answers with a question of his own, far too many "what do you think?"

I have only listened to him a handful of time basically just preason on the streams . The one thing I like that he xoes tho is at the beginning of every period with " left to right and right to left".

Pete did the same thing only it was "to my broadcast right/left".

Right. Fair enough, though I would use the same reasoning for Rogers as the Flames (though I understand they're likely be less loyalty). Though the argument you make about salary makes sense. Still, I thought old time broadcasters were preferred anyway, or is that more of a US/football/baseball thing?

I played in the Pro Am last year and heard from a pretty good source that he was forced out.
Peter had a great voice and was great at calling games. Like many posters here, I agree the last few years he began to slip.
Although different styles, he reminds me of Bob Cole. Great sounding voice and he used to be a great caller. Some of his broadcasts these days are cringeworthy though. Way too slow these days.

Lol, that's one thing that kind of annoys me too. During the Flames segment at 8am, a lot of the questions from Boomer / Rhett / Pinder gets answered with "what do you guys think?". Sometimes, there's awkward silence as the three guys are caught off guard by needing to answer their own questions rather than get it from Wills. Guy has to definitely work on that.
