Looks like he smashed his knee on the boards unfortunately when he went for that hit.

The fact he can't put any weight on it probably means it's not going to be a day-to-day injury.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Ferland might just be a little too inherently fragile to maintain his style of play?
I'm not ragging on the guy or anything, but hockey is a marathon.

I don't know if I'd say that he's inherently fragile, but anyone who plays his style of game is going to be at a higher risk of injury. He's going to need to learn how to pick his spots and not hit everything that moves with outright reckless abandon. Otherwise, he'll likely be spending a lot of time on the IR over his career.

Well, 'reckless abandon' sort of is his style. Some can get away with it longer than others.

It's no coincidence that both Ferland and Bouma are hurt often. IMO anyways

Right, but Ferland is different from Bouma. Ferland's complete disregard for his own well-being is admirable during the stretch-run or on a cup run, but it cant be maintained.

Hes got to dial it back a bit and pick his spots and then you have to ask whether that will alter his effectiveness.

I am not too worried about his style of play.
He is trying to contribute to the team, and he is still finding his way.

But he has the tools - speed, hands, shot - to contribute in all kinds of ways. Once he finds some success and gains some confidence, he'll settle into a more all-around style.

At that point, I would hope and assume that he would pick his spots more with respect to physicality.

I ran into Ferland today at five guys with his younger brother. His brother held the door for my pregnant wife and I. He smiled at me but I didn't realize it was Ferland until after he went inside.
He was walking unassisted (no crutches) and I did not notice any limping. Hopefully he is back with the team soon!
